Maja is a college student in Connecticut studying psychology. We spend a lot of time talking about her past, and the strained relationships with her family members that she had growing up and how they were impacted by misophonia. We hear about her father’s volatility and trouble with alcohol, the difficulty in being understood and accommodated at home. We talk about life at school and with friends and how it’s difficult sometimes to know how much to share. And we spend a lot of time discussing therapy and healing from modalities such as parts work and inner child healing, mind-body regulation and how she is exploring various sides of spirituality. I love these episodes that delve into the childhood links to misophonia. It comes up a lot and in my opinion is being ignored by the research community in favor of surface-level approaches that can be delivered in a fixed period of time.
