The Netflix anime series based on the “Scott Pilgrim” graphic novels is bringing back the entire main cast of the film ” Scott Pilgrim vs. The World ” to voice their characters in the show. The show, which was first reported as being in development at Netflix in January 2022, has officially been ordered to series.

A ” Star Trek” series set at Starfleet Academy has officially been ordered at Paramount+, Variety has learned. The series has been in the works for some time, as Variety first reported on the development of a Starfleet Academy show in 2018, though that project had a different creative team.

James Gunn is set to direct ” Superman: Legacy.” The irreverent filmmaker, who serves as chairman and CEO of DC Studios with partner Peter Safran, revealed on Wednesday that he will helm a previously-announced reboot of the Superman franchise. Gunn also wrote the screenplay, and Safran will produce.

” Phineas and Ferb” co-creator and executive producer Jeff “Swampy” Marsh is officially joining the revival of the series in the works at Disney Branded Television. It was announced in January that the beloved animated show was returning for 40 episodes, with co-creator Dan Povenmire spearheading the revival.

HBO Max’s “The Batman” spinoff series ” The Penguin” has cast Clancy Brown in a recurring role, Variety has learned. Brown joins a cast that includes series lead Colin Farrell, who will reprise the role of Oswald “The Penguin” Cobblepot from “The Batman, as well as Cristin Milioti, Rhenzy Feliz, Michael Kelly, Shohreh Aghdashloo, and Deirdre O’Connell.

” Star Trek: Discovery” will end with the upcoming Season 5 at Paramount+, Variety has learned. In addition, the fifth and final season will now debut in early 2024 as opposed to this year as originally thought.

” Dead by Daylight ” is coming to Hollywood. Atomic Monster and Blumhouse are teaming up with Behaviour Interactive, the largest Canadian gaming studio, to develop a feature film adaptation of the hit horror multiplayer game, “Dead by Daylight.”

Vin Diesel is set to return for a fourth film in the ” Riddick ” franchise, titled “Riddick: Furya.” The new film is written and directed by David Twohy, who first teamed up with Diesel on 2000’s “Pitch Black,” and continued the hit sci-fi franchise with two sequels, 2004’s “The Chronicles of Riddick ” and 2013’s “Riddick.”

A Spider-Man Noir live-action series is in the works at Amazon, Variety has learned exclusively. The untitled series will follow an older, grizzled superhero in 1930s New York City. An individual with knowledge of the project says that the show will be set in its own universe and the main character will not be Peter Parker.

The adult animated series “Hit-Monkey” has been renewed for Season 2 at Hulu, Variety has learned. The renewal comes over a year since the show originally debuted back in November 2021. Based on the titular Marvel Comics character of the same name, the series follows a Japanese snow monkey whose entire tribe is slaughtered.

Plans have begun to formulate for James Gunn and Peter Safran’s slate of DC Studios films, with filmmaker James Mangold in early talks to take on ” Swamp Thing.” Sources tell Variety that Mangold is a longtime fan of the DC Comics supernatural hero and approached Gunn and Safran with his idea for the forthcoming project.
