Roy of the Rovers turns 67 this month, and we take a look at his career during the 1970s. We also talk H’wood rumors, and review Reservation Dogs on Hulu, Black Manta #1 from DC Comics, Hellboy and the BPRD 1957 – Family Ties, and Norse Mythology II both from from Dark Horse Comics.

Hayley Atwell has been cast in Netflix and Legendary Television’s upcoming ” Tomb Raider ” anime series. Atwell will voice the franchise hero, Lara Croft, in the new series based on Square Enix’s iconic game. This upcoming series marks the character’s anime debut.

Brian Robbins has officially been named president and CEO of Paramount Pictures, replacing Jim Gianopulos as head of the studio behind the “Mission: Impossible” and “Transformers” franchises, and setting up a new era in the oversight of one of Hollywood’s big movie studios.

A She-Ra live-action series is in early development at Amazon, Variety has learned exclusively. As the project is in the very early stages, no writer is currently attached. DreamWorks Animation will serve as an executive producer after recently producing the Netflix animated series “She-Ra and the Princesses of Power.”

HBO Max is developing a series about The Penguin that will be a spinoff of ” The Batman” feature, Variety has learned from sources. Colin Farrell is set to play the notorious supervillain in “The Batman.” According to sources, Farrell has been approached to star in the spinoff series but no deal is currently in place.

Following his appearance in the Aquaman 80th Anniversary 100-Page Super Spectacular, the scourge of the seas now gets his own series. Black Manta is chasing a rare metal with incredible powers, and he’s not the only one who wants to get his hands on it, friend and foe alike! Torrid is a former ally who has escaped hell (literally!) to answer the call of the metal, but can Manta trust her? Hopefully so because he might need her help to fend off Devil Ray, a new competitor for the role of the biggest villain underwater.

UPDATED: Marvel’s ” Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” capped off Labor Day weekend at the box office with a bang. The superhero action adventure, starring Canadian actor Simu Liu, had an even bigger debut than expected, collecting $94.4 million in its first four days of release and setting a new high watermark for the holiday weekend.

Sony has altered release plans for ” Venom: Let There Be Carnage ” for the fifth – and hopefully final – time. In a surprise move, the comic book adaptation, starring Tom Hardy as the journalist turned alien symbiote, will debut in theaters earlier than expected on Oct. 1.

HBO Max has ordered a pilot for a potential “Dead Boy Detectives” series, Variety has learned exclusively from sources. Based on the DC Comics characters created by Neil Gaiman, the one-hour series would follow the Dead Boy Detectives – Charles Rowland and Edwin Paine – who decided not to enter the afterlife in order to stay on earth and investigate crimes involving the supernatural.

The animated ” Magic: The Gathering” series at Netflix has cast Brandon Routh in the lead role. The announcement was made during Wizards of the Coast’s Magic Showcase 2021 stream. Plot details on the series are still being kept under wraps, but it was confirmed that Routh will voice the character Gideon Jura.

The ” Armor Wars” series at Disney Plus has tapped Yassir Lester to serve as head writer, Variety has confirmed with sources. Don Cheadle will star in the series, reprising the role of James “Rhodey” Rhodes, a.k.a. War Machine. The series is based on the Marvel Comics series of the same name.

Renowned Japanese filmmaker Shinsuke Sato (“I Am a Hero,” “Kingdom” and “Alice in Borderland”) has signed on to direct a live-action adaptation of ” My Hero Academia ” for Legendary Entertainment. The prolific filmmaker will make his English-language debut with the movie, which is based on the globally acclaimed manga property.

Here we go again. Despite Hollywood’s best efforts, the delta variant of COVID-19 has started to upend the movie theater industry’s recent gains. Given the rocky film landscape, Sony Pictures has announced plans to delay the theatrical release of ” Venom: Let There Be Carnage,” the studio’s upcoming comic book adventure, starring Tom Hardy as the eponymous alien symbiote.

The ” Avatar: The Last Airbender” live-action series at Netflix has found its four series leads. Gordon Cormier, Kiawentiio, Ian Ousley, and Dallas Liu have all joined the series. Cormier will star as Aang, with Kiawentiio set to play Katara. Ousley will play Sokka and Liu will play Zuko.

Eaglemoss Hero Collector is raising funds for Transformers Gen-1 Chess Set on Kickstarter! An all-new chess set featuring 32 hand-painted game pieces modelled on the classic 1980s Generation One Transformers animated cartoon.

Archie Meets The Ramones! South Park cranks the film count to 14 ,and things get dark in season two of Stargirl. Plus, we review Unbelievable Unteens #1 from Dark Horse Comics, Sinister War #2 from Marvel Comics, The Mysterious Benedict Society on Disney Plus, and someone may have seen What If… before you did!

” South Park ” creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone have set an expansive new deal with ViacomCBS’ MTV Entertainment Studios that calls for the pair to produce 14 movies for Paramount Plus based on the enduring Comedy Central animated franchise. The pact also renews “South Park” as a series for Comedy Central through its 30th season in 2027.

Five summers ago, the DC supervillain extravaganza Suicide Squad had a massive $133.7 opening weekend at the North American box office. Despite those eye-popping numbers, critics and audiences were left unimpressed by the film. This weekend, the complete opposite happened: critics and audiences loved its big-budget follow-up, The Suicide Squad, but its theatrical receipts were underwhelming, pulling in just $26.5 million in its debut weekend.

Executive producer and character creator Johns told the panel that writer Geoff Johns ( The Flash, Titans), along with the cast of DC’s Season Two, sat down and fielded questions from various members of the press during the network’s recent virtual panel.

One particularly salient panel at the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators Big Five-Oh Conference, which was held from July 29-August 2, provided industry context on the dramatic marketplace shift that has developed over the course of the pandemic.

Brothers Casey and Colin Jost are co-writing a brand new ” Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles ” movie for Paramount Pictures. The untitled, live-action movie is separate from the CGI-animated film that Seth Rogen is producing for Paramount and Nickelodeon. Michael Bay, Andrew Form, Brad Fuller, Scott Mednick and Galen Walker are producing the new “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” film.

“This gendered character attack has no place in a business dispute and contributes to an environment in which women and girls are perceived as less able than men to protect their own interests without facing ad hominem criticism,” write the orgs in a joint statement.
