Disney and Marvel’s superhero adventure ” Black Widow ” captured a massive $80 million in its first weekend, crushing the benchmark for the biggest box office debut since the pandemic. The film, starring Scarlett Johansson, is the first from the Marvel Cinematic Universe to open simultaneously in movie theaters and on Disney Plus, where subscribers can rent “Black Widow” for an extra $30.

The sale, to an anonymous bidder, set a record just two days after a copy of The Legend of Zelda sold for $870,000, according to Heritage Auctions. An anonymous buyer has paid $1.56 million for a 25-year-old copy of Super Mario 64 in its original packaging, a record price for a video game, according to the auction house that sold it.

More The Witcher content is coming down the hatch this year as Netflix reveals the premiere date for its anime movie The Witcher: Nightmare of The Wolf. Shortly after Netflix unveiled the premiere date for the Henry Cavill-starring drama’s Season 2, the streamer shared that Nightmare of The Wolf will premiere Monday August 23, 2021.

EXCLUSIVE: Tom Spezialy, coming off a run as an executive producer on HBO’s Emmy-winning limited series Watchmen, has signed an overall deal with Amazon Studios. Under the pact, I hear Spezialy has joined Sony Pictures Television’s upcoming live-action Marvel series, which reportedly is headed to Amazon’s Prime Video as SVOD distributor.

Continuing its resilient acquisition of higher-profile commercial titles for distribution in the U.S. and Canada, Saban Films has picked up North American rights to “The Hyperions,” an indie superhero movie headed by Cary Elwes (“The Princess Bride”). Saban Films has set a theatrical release for Feb. 2022.

This year’s Free Comic Book Day has been rescheduled to Saturday, the 14th of August, 2021 – fifteen months since the last one. And it seems it will have some other differences, including being sponsored by Coca-Cola.

The ” Transformers” movie franchise will take on the “Beast Wars” storyline from the late 1990s in “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts,” producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura and director Steven Caple Jr. announced on Tuesday. Production is just starting on the feature, but Di Bonaventura and Caple still did reveal a fair amount about “Rise of the Beasts.”

Netflix has released the cast of “Jupiter’s Legacy,” effectively bringing the show to an end after one season. At the same time, the streamer has ordered a live-action adaptation of Mark Millar’s “Supercrooks” to series.

Issa Rae, the four-time Emmy-nominated creator and star of HBO’s Insecure, will have a voice role in Sony’s sequel to its Oscar-winning feature Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Deadline confirmed Friday. The animated pic is directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers and Justin K. Thompson. The pic hits theaters on October 7, 2022.

Netflix is returning to the Grishaverse. The fantasy series ” Shadow and Bone” has been renewed for a second season, the streamer announced on Monday during its Geeked Week.

Rob Zombie has confirmed his long-rumored resurrection of The Munsters is really happening. The musician-director announced the news on his Instagram page Monday. “Attention Boils and Ghouls!,” Zombie wrote. “The rumors are true! My next film project will be the one I’ve been chasing for 20 years! THE MUNSTERS!

Production has wrapped on ” Ms. Marvel,” a Disney-Marvel series with a Muslim teen lead character and a significant Asian cast. Filming was relocated to Thailand after a stint in Georgia, U.S. Marvel released a teaser trailer for the show in December last year, before the shift in filming location.

Dave Bautista has been cast in the sequel to ” Knives Out.” He joins Daniel Craig, whose iridescent Detective Benoit Blanc propelled the first movie to box office glory, in an undisclosed role. Plot details for the follow-up have been kept under wraps, though it’s expected to enlist another A-list cast to anchor a soapy murder mystery.

Married writer-producers Eric Heisserer (“Shadow and Bone”) and Christine Boylan (“The Punisher”) and production company Hivemind (” The Witcher,” “The Expanse”) have partnered with game publisher Paradox Interactive to develop the World of Darkness story universe for film and television.

The “Ironheart” series at Disney Plus has tapped Chinaka Hodge to serve as head writer, Variety has learned exclusively from sources. “Ironheart” will star Dominique Thorne as Marvel character Riri Williams, a genius inventor and the creator of the most advanced suit of armor since Iron Man.

Finn Wittrock has been cast in a lead role of the upcoming ” Green Lantern” series at HBO Max, Variety has learned. Wittrock will star as Guy Gardner, who is described as a hulking mass of masculinity, and, as rendered in the comics, an embodiment of 1980s hyper-patriotism.
