Making a difference with others #2 The Serving Gift

Listen Later

Rom 12:3-8 NIV
For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you. 4 For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, 5 so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. 6 We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your[https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Romans%2012andversion=NIV#fen-NIV-28252a (a)] faith; 7 if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; 8 if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead,[https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Romans%2012andversion=NIV#fen-NIV-28254b (b)] do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.
#2 The serving Gift : seeing the vision, building a plan and way of getting there (systems) and finishing well.
Key Verse:
Phil 1:6 MSG
There has never been the slightest doubt in my mind that the God who started this great work in you would keep at it and bring it to a flourishing finish on the very day Christ Jesus appears.
Positive:
Love to be a part of the team
see the vision and the big questions quickly
asks lots of questions
loves to see systems, plans, calendars, spread sheets, maps, flow charts, run sheets, business plans
see a job through to completion
Time management guy:- 3 things
‘a place for everything, and everything in its place’.
‘puts like things together,’,
‘get rid of things you don’t need' (purge, don’t hoard).
Needs attention:
May want the whole plan up front and get frustrated until it comes.
Needs to keep the main things the main things. (macro and well as micro views.
sometimes the systems can become more important than the end-goal
can overwork and get stressed.
OT example:
Nehemiah
Neh 2:4-18 NIV
The king said to me, “What is it you want?” Then I prayed to the God of heaven, 5 and I answered the king, “If it pleases the king and if your servant has found favor in his sight, let him send me to the city in Judah where my ancestors are buried so that I can rebuild it.” 6 Then the king, with the queen sitting beside him, asked me, “How long will your journey take, and when will you get back?” It pleased the king to send me; so I set a time. 7 I also said to him, “If it pleases the king, may I have letters to the governors of Trans-Euphrates, so that they will provide me safe-conduct until I arrive in Judah? 8 And may I have a letter to Asaph, keeper of the royal park, so he will give me timber to make beams for the gates of the citadel by the temple and for the city wall and for the residence I will occupy?” And because the gracious hand of my God was on me, the king granted my requests. 9 So I went to the governors of Trans-Euphrates and gave them the king’s letters. The king had also sent army officers and cavalry with me. 10 When Sanballat the Horonite and Tobiah the Ammonite official heard about this, they were very much disturbed that someone had come to promote the welfare of the Israelites. 11 I went to Jerusalem, and after staying there three days 12 I set out during the night with a few others. I had not told anyone what my God had put in my heart to do for Jerusalem. There were no mounts with me except the one I was riding on. 13 By night I went out through the Valley Gate toward the Jackal[https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=neh+2andversion=NIV#fen-NIV-12321a (a)] Well and the Dung Gate, examining the walls of Jerusalem, which had been broken down, and its gates, which had been destroyed by fire. 14 Then I moved on toward the Fountain Gate and the King’s Pool, but there was not enough room for my mount to get through; 15 so
