Richard Factor: The Genius of Eventide on Moving Map Systems and Synthesizers

One of the original founders of Eventide Clock Works, Richard Factor has seen a lot of changes in the world of audio and electronics. Richard is an inventor, blogger and award winning canoer. He enjoys reading science, science fiction, humor and spy books. His favorite beverage is ice water, favorite food - chocolate, and favorite color blue. He is also the founder of SETI League, an international grass-roots organization dedicated to privatizing the electromagnetic Search for Extra- Terrestrial Intelligence. Eventide was founded in 1971 by recording engineer Stephen Katz, inventor Richard Factor, and patent attorney Orville Greene.

The business began in the basement of the Sound Exchange, a recording studio located in New York City. Katz asked Factor to build a gadget that would rewind the analog tape back to a specific point on their Ampex multitrack recorder. The resulting device was a success for both them and Ampex. Their other early products included a two-second delay for telephone research and an electrostatic deflector for dispensing nano-liter quantities of chemical re-agents. If it can happen in the world of infertility, it's happened to me.

OK - that's not exactly true because each and every path toward trying to conceive is different, but I took a long and unanticipated six-year journey to motherhood and I learned a LOT. I want to share it with you. During my course of becoming a mother, my husband Isaac and I started a podcast, (Maculate Conception) to process the deep grief we were feeling and the isolation we were experiencing. Through that podcast, women from all over the world reached out to me, and almost accidentally, I began to help them on their own journeys. We'd talk about questions to ask the doctor, protocols, nurses, how to make important decisions, and bedside manner. I realized that there is an incredible need for patient advocacy, but also for someone who understands what you're going through to listen, to handhold, to move through the junk of the journey from an objective standpoint.

I have my degree in Behavioral Science from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and also went to Drama School in New York at The American Academy of Dramatic Arts. We've all heard of becoming an expert in something we never wanted to be an expert in - that's me. I didn't want to become an expert in infertility. But after twelve attempts, a miscarriage, and an ectopic pregnancy, once I finally emerged on the other side of my rainbow I knew that it was part of my life's path to help others along their way.

Wouter Kellerman, a 3X GRAMMY® Award-winning flautist, composer, producer, and philanthropist, has established a remarkable legacy in the music industry. He received his first GRAMMY® Award, which he earned for his album "Winds of Samsara." This exceptional album not only claimed the top position on the US Billboard Charts but also reached the pinnacle of the Zone Music Reporter Top 100 International Radio Airplay Chart.

Following this resounding success, Kellerman released his subsequent album, "Love Language," which not only garnered a GRAMMY® nomination for Best Contemporary Instrumental Album but also debuted at the #1 spot on the Billboard World Music charts within its first week of release. Pianist Bobby Lyle and his "Ivory Flow"

Legendary pianist/organist Bobby Lyle was deemed a musical wonder when he released his first album, The Genie, which exploded onto the Billboard charts and blew the minds of jazz enthusiasts everywhere. Since that debut, Lyle has kept a high standard for 30-plus years, and has successfully maintain a flourishing, alwaysevolving career. As a pianist, composer, recording artist (with product on Capitol Jazz, Atlantic Jazz, Three Keys, Heads Up, and now New Warrior Music), musical director, music publisher, and music educator, Bobby Lyle's presence, whether on stage or on his recordings, has always been bigger than life. Lyle's unrivaled high standard of excellence entitles him to a place on the throne alongside other musical royalty, making him a permanent fixture in the prodigious society of jazz. With Lyle's forthcoming CD Ivory Flow (2021), he has released the single, "Living in the Flow," which has already received massive of airplay and a ton of attention with a cast of iconic musicians, including Stanley Clarke, Gerald Albright, Kirk Whalum, and more! As a youngster, Bobby Lyle was a prodigy whose gift became apparent when he was only 9 years old. He was a professional "paid" pianist at 16, performing regularly at local clubs in Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota. After high school, Lyle studied advanced piano at Macalester College in St. Paul, MN. He left after two years to become a full-time touring musician on the national jazz circuit with ex-Ramsey Lewis sidemen who formed their own band called Young-Holt Unlimited with whom he also recorded on Atlantic-Cotillion.

This ultimately inspired him to move from Minneapolis to Los Angeles to pursue a music career in earnest. Once there, after a brief tour with Sly and the Family Stone, he met Jazz Crusader co-founder Wayne Henderson who became his mentor; and, after securing his first recording deal (at Capitol Jazz), Henderson became his record producer. Subsequent deals with Atlantic Jazz, Three Keys, and Heads Up allowed Lyle to amass a prolific discography of jazz music—all of it selfproduced. His musical "Lyle" journey has taken him all over the world to various festivals and venues. He has served as musical director for such notable artists: Al Jarreau, Anita Baker, Bette Midler (with whom he scored an Emmy nomination for her HBO special Diva Las Vegas), and Phyliss Hyman. His 1990 project The Journey made it to #1 on the Billboard jazz chart, and he is still the only artist who's record (Straight and Smooth on the Three Keys label, 2005) appeared on both the Billboard Magazine smooth jazz, and the Billboard traditional jazz charts at the same time.

Everything Pianist/Composer/Multi-Instrumentalist Gabe Dixon Touches "Turns to Gold"

"I've been on this journey of learning to believe in myself and my music for most of my life." Gabe Dixon Musician Gabe Dixon began his career in the Nashville-based country band, Six Shooter. Born and raised in Tennessee, he started playing keyboards professionally before entering high school.

As a teenager, you could usually find him hauling his Hammond B3 organ in and out of Nashville nightclubs he wasn't even old enough to legally enter. By the time he hit 18 Gabe was headed to Florida to study classical piano at the University of Miami. It was there that he launched the Gabe Dixon Band, releasing 4 albums between 1998 and 2010, before establishing himself as a solo artist and founding his label Rolling Ball Records. Dixon has performed and/or recorded with the Tedeschi Trucks Band, Paul McCartney, Loggins & Messina, Allison Krause and Supertramp.

Touted as a "gifted young guitarist" by the New York Times, and "a guitarist to keep an eye on" by the Washington Post, 4-time Grammy®-nominated artist Mak Grgic [GER-gich] is a star on the worldwide stage.

Born in Ljubljana, Slovenia, in 1987, Makstudied guitar in Zagreb with the revered Ante Cagalj at the Elly Basic Music Academy. By the age of 14, he was balancing his world champion status in karate with his love for the guitar. Following an injury to his left thumb, he made the decision to focus on a career in music, going on to complete a Bachelor's degree with Alvaro Pierri at the University for Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, and a Master's and Doctorate degrees at USC in Los Angeles with Brian Head, William Kanengiser and Scott Tennant. In the fall of 2017, he began the Artist Diploma program at USC, the first guitarist in the university's history to be admitted to this elite program.

As both soloist and collaborator, Mak averages fifty performances a year — nearly two bookings per week. He is a founding member in two duos—the Flamenco-style "Duo Deloro" with Adam Del Monte, and the new music-focused "FretX Duo" with Daniel Lippel, guitarist of the International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE). As Young Artist in Residence with the Da Camera Society of Los Angeles, he founded "DC8," an octet declared "an inspiring addition to the contemporary music landscape in Los Angeles" [Los Angeles Times]. Other collaborations include the JACK Quartet, The Assad Brothers, violinists Augustin Hadelich, Curtis Stewart, Martin Chalifour and Chee Yun, and cellists Jay Campbell, Joshua Roman, John Sant'Ambrogio, and Clive Greensmith, formerly of the Tokyo String Quartet.

In 2009 at the age of 22, Mak made his professional debut in Russia, performing Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez with the St. Petersburg Symphony Orchestra under Vladimir Lande. He now makes two regular tours to Asia each season and performs in Europe every other month. Recent engagements include performances and residencies at the Musikverein and the Konzerhaus in Vienna; the Konzerthuset in Stockholm several venues in Portugal; Teatro Cervantes de Bejar in Castilla-Leon/Spain; the Sarajevo Music Academy; several venues in Slovenia; the Paris Guitar Foundation; Zurich University of the Arts; Taipei National Theater; Shanghai Grand Theater; and the Hong Kong International Guitar Festival.

In North America, he has performed at Walt Disney Hall (Los Angeles); The Morgan Library; The Kennedy Center; the National Gallery of Art; NAMM Show (California); Strathmore Hall (Maryland); the New York Classical Guitar Society; the Pacific Symphony; Mainly Mozart (San Diego); Beyond Microtonal Music Festival (Pittsburgh); the Dallas Opera for performances of Peter Maxwell Davies's The Lighthouse; Dumbarton Concerts (Washington, D.C.); the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society and numerous other venues and guitar societies across the globe. Highlights of the '24/'25 season include appearances with the Pacific Symphony, Charleston Symphony, Boise Philharmonic, Sedona Symphony and the East Coast premiere of "Borders," by Michael Abels with the American Composers Orchestra in Zankel Hall at Carnegie Hall.

Also, an active entrepreneur and educator, Mak has been a member of the leadership teams of several organizations including the European Guitar Festival Collaborative (EuroStrings), the Zagreb Guitar Festival, and the Connecticut Guitar Festival. He served as an adjunct faculty member at Mount St. Mary's University in Los Angeles, and was a director of Elemental Guitar in Santa Monica, a program designed especially for young people. In 2022, he founded "Notey's World" and the company Notey Inc, to develop a unique game for tablets and smart phones intended to popularize music learning and make it more fun. As a response to the Covid-19 pandemic, he founded the Virtual Guitar Orchestra, gathering more than 5000 guitarists from more than 50 countries to date. VGO is a community-oriented project, recognized by the Library of Congress for its cultural contributions, and has also formed collaborations with the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) and the Augustine Educational Foundation, to help ensembles be active virtually.

Mak plays and endorses an array of outstanding concert guitars made by diverse craftsmen, including German luthier Antonius Müller, the Chinese master Hanson Yao, Bosnian Slavko Mrdalj, Slovenian Samo Sali, Polish Rafal Turkowiak, a 1966 José Ramírez, as well as other re-fretted and remodeled guitars.

Mak Grgic is also proud to be involved with the Bosana Foundation, an organization that raises money for Bosnian youth. He also regularly awards education-furthering scholarships to select students across South America.
