June 04, 2022COSTEL PANTILIMONHaving played against Roberto Mancini's Manchester City in the Europa League at the beginning of the 2010-11 season, the manager went on to sign Costel Pantilimon for the start of 2011-12, initially on loan. The 6ft 8in Romanian was back-up for two seasons, before new boss Manuel Pellegrini upgraded him to first choice in the autumn of 2013, to provide a kick up the backside for regular number one Joe Hart. David Mooney from the Blue Moon Podcast sat down for a chat with the back-up keeper in the run up to the club's title win in 2012. Hosted on Acast. June 03, 2022LEE CROOKSThere are often interesting stories about what former footballers have gone on to do later in life. Perhaps one of the most famous is that of Lee Crooks, the ex-Premier League full-back who went on to join the army, serving in Afghanistan. He came through the ranks at Manchester City in the mid-1990s, establishing himself in the team as it dropped through the divisions and climbed back to the Premier League. He was another who featured in the famous win at Wembley over Gillingham in 1999. He spoke to the Blue Moon Podcast's David Mooney. Hosted on Acast. June 02, 2022MARK HALSEYManchester City fans will always wonder where five extra minutes came from in the 1999 Division Two play-off final. Without them, Kevin Horlock and Paul Dickov wouldn't have been able to rescue the Blues from another season in the third tier with two stoppage time goals. Mark Halsey was the referee for that match - he spoke to the Blue Moon Podcast's David Mooney in 2011 to discuss the game, and to explain more about how refereeing and football helped him when he found out he was suffering from cancer. June 02, 2022COLIN BELLEvery club has its legends. There are players that go down in the annals of history as the greatest ever player. For many Manchester City fans, that man is Colin Bell. Signed from Bury in 1966, Bell went on to make almost 500 appearances for the Blues in a 13-year period. Part of one of the club's most devastating attacking lines, along with Francis Lee and Mike Summerbee, Bell's career was cruelly cut short due to injury - he was never able to recapture the form he had previously showed. He spoke to the Blue Moon Podcast's David Mooney in 2013. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information....more8minPlay

June 01, 2022NICLAS JENSENSome players don't spend a long time at a club, but still make a big impact or are known for one moment. Niclas Jensen, during his season-and-a-half at Maine Road, was a solid left back option for Kevin Keegan's Manchester City. However, he's most remembered for a wonder strike in a home win over Leeds in 2003. He volleyed in from the edge of the box after Nicholas Anelka crossed in the second half, beating Paul Robinson with a belter of a shot into the far corner. He's been on a trip down memory lane with the Blue Moon Podcast's David Mooney. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information....more7minPlay
May 31, 2022JASON MANFORDManchester City have often been dubbed the comedy club for their ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Nothing is too weird for the Blues to have done and it's why the fans have always needed a dark sense of humour - even when it's looked like times have been good, in more recent years. Comedian Jason Manford, a City supporter himself, has made it his life laughing at the world around him, so targeting the club he's a fan of is something that comes naturally. The Blue Moon Podcast's David Mooney and Dan Burns caught up with him in 2010. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information....more17minPlay
May 31, 2022TERRY COOKEThere aren't many players who make the switch directly from Manchester United to Manchester City and that's exactly what Terry Cooke did in 1999. Of course, City were in the third tier and United were in the Premier League - so they weren't really competing with each other at that stage. It's still an exclusive club to be a member of. Cooke went on to play a part in City's back-to-back promotions to return to the top flight and took a successful spot-kick in the penalty shoot-out win over Gillingham at Wembley. David Mooney spoke to him in 2019. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information....more13minPlay
May 30, 2022COLIN HENDRYWith only 18-months at Manchester City, Colin Hendry is one of the players that fans wish they could have seen more of. Signed from Blackburn in 1989, he moved back to Ewood Park less than two years later after he fell out of manager Peter Reid's plans. With Blackburn, he'd go on to become a Premier League winner. Known for his tough-tackling and ability on the ball, Hendry was well-liked by the Maine Road faithful for his flamboyant style on the ball. The Blue Moon Podcast's David Mooney caught up with the former Scotland international in 2017. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information....more7minPlay
