When Mark Hughes became Manchester City manager in 2008, he appointed Mike Rigg as his technical director, a role that was being created at the club. After a troubled stage in his career, Andy Morrison moved to Manchester City from Huddersfield as the club had sunk into the third tier. When Kevin Keegan needed to freshen his squad up in the January transfer window of 2005, he brought in a pacy winger from Atletico Madrid on a half-season loan. Kiki Musampa impressed, with some key goals in the run-in that almost saw the team qualify for the UEFA Cup, under new manager Stuart Pearce. Musampa returned for 2005-06 on a season-long loan. Often seen as a Premier League journeyman, Michael Brown started his career in England with Manchester City, coming through the ranks in the mid-1990s. He is one of a handful of players to have been sent off on their debut for the club, ten minutes after coming off the bench against QPR in 1995. He played under several City managers, featuring in the 1999 Division Two play-off final, before being moved on the following year. It was a whirlwind start for Gary Owen at Manchester City.
