There aren't many players who can be a club legend at Manchester United and still be held in high regard by Manchester City fans. While he didn't enjoy the same success at Maine Road as he did at Old Trafford, Denis Law was an excellent servant to both clubs. City fans remember a back-heel at Old Trafford, on his return with the Blues, which played its part in sending United down to Division Two. Stan Horne joined Manchester City in the 1960s, to play his part in the great Joe Mercer and Malcolm Allison team. In 1968, he won the First Division title with the club - but hadn't played enough games to automatically qualify for a medal. In 2020, the Football League announced they were falling into line with the Premier League by reducing the threshold to five games, meaning Horne would now get his honour - more than 50 years after winning the title. Some goals will never be forgotten. Manchester City's equaliser at Wembley in the Division Two play-off final in 1999 is one that goes down as perhaps the most important in the club's history, as Paul Dickov's strike in the 95th minute saw the Blues claw back from 2-0 down to draw. Forever a cult hero at City, the feisty Scot had two spells with the club - rejoining in 2006, as a much-changed City battled for Premier League survival. One of Manchester City's long list of academy graduates, Leon Mike made several first team appearances for the Blues under Kevin Keegan - however, his playing time was limited due to the impact of Shaun Goater and Paulo Wanchope. The striker moved on in 2002, as City were promoted back to the Premier League. Signed on a free transfer from Leeds, Danny Mills played at right-back for Kevin Keegan and Stuart Pearce's Manchester City until the emergence of youngster Micah Richards. Often criticised by the fans, Mills saw out his deal with the Blues until he retired in 2009, following unsuccessful loan spells. His one and only goal at Eastlands was a memorable effort in a 2-0 win over Everton, as he thumped the ball home from long range. One of Kevin Keegan's first signings at Manchester City was Eyal Berkovic. The playmaker was part of the manager's exciting, attacking team that went on to win the Division One title in 2002 - scoring more than 100 goals in the process. Berkovic was also key to City's European qualification the following season, forming a brilliant relationship with the team's other attacking players. In this very brief interview in 2019, David Mooney talked to the Israeli creative midfielder about his time at Maine Road and one of his most memorable goals for the club.

When in need of some midfield security in the mid-1990s - to stave off the threat of relegation - former City manager Brian Horton turned to a holding midfielder from Germany. Steffen Karl arrived on a short loan in 1994 from Borussia Dortmund, joining his fellow German Uwe Rosler at Maine Road. The loan wasn't made permanent and so Karl moved on after a handful of games - and one goal, a winner against Southampton at The Dell. The story of Nicky Weaver's Manchester City career couldn't be more of a rollercoaster. From the highs of saving penalties in the Division Two play-off final in his first season, to the lows of almost having to retire with a very serious knee injury just over three years later, Weaver's time was never dull. An experimental and career-saving operation was to follow, before he returned to first team action in 2006 - fighting to take the number one jersey back. Michael Ball's two-and-a-half seasons at Manchester City saw some of the biggest changes the club would ever go through. He arrived in Stuart Pearce's final season - where the team scored only 10 goals at home all year.
