Pastor Derrill's continues the Life of the Table series with a sermon emphasizing the global table. We find that the call of God to gather at the table was enlarged up on Pentecost (which happens to be today), 50 days after Passover, when the Holy Spirit was poured out on the newly formed church. The power that came upon them was for witness in the nations of the world. This requires honor, flexibility, curiosity, and a true acknowledgment that ethnicity is eternal and part of God’s design for humanity. Stretching ourselves to be multicultural and multi-ethnic believers is Godly.
This week's message belongs to a series of conversation that talks about Life at the Table. In this message which falls on the same day as Mother's Day, Pastor Derrill Corbin talks about the Family Table and how it is the primary place of discipleship. God places us into family (both natural and spiritual), then works IN the family by growing and blessing it, so that He can work THROUGH the family to bring His blessing to those that are around us. The centerpiece of these family relationships is the table.
This week’s message is part of a series called “Life at the Table.” Pastor Derrill teaches about the impact when those seated at the local church table set a table for those in their neighborhoods. He encourages believers to move closer to the world around us by moving INto our neighborhoods, create a culture of radically ordinary hospitality which sacrifices temporally so that others can live eternally. He challenges listeners to practice honor and embrace celebration.
In this week's message from the series "Life at the Table," Pastor Derrill challenges listeners to move from the church table to the work table to build Jesus' Church. Acknowledging how spiritual life impacts work life, he poses three crucial questions: 1. Is work something we endure or something we delight? 2. How much of my identity and significance is rooted in my work? 3. What is the impact of marketplace tables in my life and the lives of others?
