Joining Mario for this week's Story Behind The Song was Naomi Moore of the iconic windmill lane recording studios in Dublin. Fittingly it is the story of one of Def Leppards biggest hits, which was recorded in those very studios.

The band recorded the song there between 1985 and 1987. The title of the album and song was thought up by drummer Rick Allen, referring to his 1984 auto accident and the ensuing worldwide media coverage surrounding it.

The album is Def Leppard& #39;s best-selling album to date, selling over 25 million copies worldwide, including 12 million in the US, and spawning seven hit singles.

The song was released in April 1989 as the lead single from his first solo album, Full Moon

Fever. The song was written by Petty and Jeff Lynne, his writing partner for the album

Traveling Wilburys bandmates George Harrison and Jeff Lynne appear in the video. Mike

Campbell and Harrisonamp;#39;s former Beatles bandmate Ringo Starr are also featured in the video

Due to its themes, the song has been used in many political campaigns – it was played often

on American radio following the September 11 attacks

This Week Mario sat down with someone he described as of of his "childhood heroes", Tony Ward. They chatted about all things Rugby, the Six nations, Nelson Mandela and ‘Gift Grub.

 

Tony Ward was a Rugby union and football player during the 1970s and 1980s. He played rugby as a fly- half for, among others,  Leinster, Munster, Ireland, the British and Irish Lions and the Barbarians.

Paul McCloone was in for Mario this week and he was joined by Damien Guiden for The Story Behind The Song.

Damien started his music career in boyband D-Side and has a very special connection to his chosen song.

Damien was a massive fan of renowned songwriter Desmond Child and got to work with him in Miami.

Over a dinner one night, Desmond shared the story of his relationship with Jon Bon Jovi, telling Damien how it all started over two lines of a song.

On this Sunday's Roast Paul McCloone was standing in for Mario.

Joined by Laura O’Mahoney of Cahoots and entertainment journalist Eoin Murphy, they discussed the difficulties of moving house, the annoyance of election canvassers and the populist politics of Nigel Farage.

Barrister and CEO of Parentline Aileen Hickie talked to Mario today on the experience of her home being burgled four times, three of those times she was in the house and once she was woken by the intruder in her bedroom with a carving knife.

This figure in a balaclava was standing over me , put a flashlight in my face , Id say we were a minute eyeballing each other.

Aileen has said that twice she knew who the person was in her home and could tell the guards who it was but unfortunately the guards were unable to do anything about it. She feels there just isn't the resources for them to go after petty crime.

Aileen lets us know that only 13% of reported burglaries have an end result where the perpetrators are found and charged. The lessons learned that Aileen imparts is to lock up, alarm the house and have the correct lighting - timed or motion actioned and make sure that everyone in the house adhers to it.
