  • 270: Sensex, Nifty likely yo open little changed; SBI, Wipro, Indiabulls Real Estate in focus
    Indian benchmark indices are likely to open little changed on Friday, tracking flat trades in global markets and after the Reserve Bank of India’s monetary policy decision. The central bank had cut the repo rate by 25 bps and changed its stance to ‘accommodative’ from ‘neutral’. 

    However, the decision didn’t cheer the markets and Indian benchmark indices BSE Sensex and NSE’s Nifty 50 recorded their biggest one-day loss.

    The Sensex ended 554 points lower at 39,530 while the broader Nifty50 index fell 178 points to end at 11,844.

    Asian shares traded marginally higher as investors await updates on US-Mexico trade tensions and US jobs data. 

    At 7.15 AM, SGX Nifty, an early indicator of the Nifty 50's trend in India, traded 21 points, or 0.18 percent, lower at 11,863, indicating a muted start for the Sensex and the Nifty 50.

    Indian benchmark indices are likely to open lower on Thursday amid muted trades in Asian markets over concerns of escalating US trade disputes with Mexico and China.

    Investors in India will remain cautious in early trading ahead of the Reserve Bank of India’s monetary policy decision due to be announced at 11:45 AM today.

    All economists on the CNBC-TV18 panel unanimously voted for a 25 basis points rate cut and four of the five members expect the RBI to keep a 'neutral' stance.

    On Tuesday, markets took a breather a day after benchmark indices, the BSE Sensex and the NSE Nifty50, scaled fresh record highs. At closing, the BSE Sensex was at 40,083.54, down 184.08 points, or 0.46 percent and Nifty50 at 12,021.65, down 66.90 points, or 0.55 percent. Markets were shut on Wednesday on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr. 

    At 7.10 AM, SGX Nifty, an early indicator of the Nifty 50's trend in India, traded 30.50 points, or 0.25 percent, lower at 12,050.50, indicating a negative start for the Sensex and the Nifty 50.

  • 268: Sensex, Nifty likely to open lower; ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, Dr Reddy's, L&T Tech in focus
    Indian benchmark indices are expected to open lower on Tuesday amid a consolidation after a record rally in the previous session.

    Indian benchmark indices BSE Sensex and NSE’s Nifty 50 surged 1.4 percent to hit their new record highs on Monday after a decline in Q4 GDP growth increased the prospects of a 50 basis point interest rate cut by the Reserve Bank of India in the fiscal year 2019-20.

    A CNBC-TV18 poll expects the central bank to cut repo rate by 25 basis points to 5.75 percent.

    In intra-day trade, Sensex gained as much as 595 points to hit a record high of 40,309, surpassing the previous high of 40,125 hit on May 23 while Nifty rose 193 points to hit a fresh high of 12,103, crossing the previous high of 12,041, hit on May 23.

    In global markets, shares in Asia inched higher and safe-haven assets gave up some overnight gains on Tuesday, as investors paused for breath after a volatile Wall Street session, but deeper concerns about growth have capped broader improvements in risk sentiment.

    At 7.05 Am, SGX Nifty, an early indicator of the Nifty 50's trend in India, traded 37 points, or 0.31 percent, lower at 12,081, indicating a negative start for the Sensex and the Nifty 50.

    Indian benchmark indices are set to open higher on Monday as prospects of an interest rate cut by the Reserve Bank of India increased after India’s fourth-quarter gross domestic product (GDP) growth rate slowed to a five-year low of 5.8 percent.

    The eight core sector industries too witnessed a slowdown in April, with growth rate slipping to 2.6 percent. However, the fiscal deficit for 2018-19 remained within the revised Budget target of 3.4 percent of the GDP.

    Domestic equity benchmarks gave up early gains, with the BSE Sensex dropping over 200 points and the NSE Nifty slipping below the 11,900 mark in afternoon session tracking losses in power, metal and financial stocks.

    In global markets, oil prices and Asian shares declined over US-China trade tensions and Donald Trump’s threat to impose tariffs on Mexico.

    At 7.03 AM, SGX Nifty, an early indicator of the Nifty 50's trend in India, traded 37.5 points, or 0.31 percent, higher at 11,962.50, indicating a positive start for the BSE Sensex and NSE’s Nifty 50.

    Indian shares are set to open flat on Friday ahead of fourth-quarter gross domestic product (GDP) data due to be released after 5.30 PM today.

    The median forecast in the latest Reuters poll showed the economy was expected to have grown 6.3 percent in the January-March quarter, the slowest annualised pace in nearly two years.

    Asian stocks and US futures tanked over concerns of a slowdown in the global economy after US President Donald Trump opened a new front in the trade war by slapping new tariffs on Mexico goods.

    Indian benchmark indices BSE Sensex and NSE’s Nifty 50 settled at record high levels in the previous session led by IT and banking stocks.

    The Sensex settled 330 points higher at record closing high of 39,832, while the Nifty50 added 85 points to end at fresh closing high of 11,946.

    At 7.20 AM, SGX Nifty, an early indicator of the Nifty 50's trend in India, traded 11.5 points, or 0.10 percent, higher, pointing to a flat start for the Sensex and the Nifty.

    Indian shares are set to open little changed on Thursday ahead of the expiry of futures and options contracts and fourth-quarter gross domestic product (GDP) data.

    Investors will also keep an eye on new government formation and ministry allocation as Narendra Modi is set to take oath as the prime minister of India for the second term.

    In global markets, Asian shares fell following losses on Wall Street as US and China showed no signs of easing trade tensions. Chinese newspapers reported that Beijing could use rare earths to strike back at Washington, reported Reuters.

    Indian benchmark indices BSE Sensex and NSE’s Nifty 50 settled snapped a three-day losing streak and settled 0.6 percent lower in the previous session. The Sensex settled 248 points lower at 39,502, while the Nifty50 lost 68 points to end at 11,861.

    At 7.10 AM, SGX Nifty, an early indicator of the Nifty 50's trend in India, was up 15 points, or 0.13 percent, at 11,879, indicating a mixed start for the Sensex and the Nifty 50.

    The Sensex settled 66 points higher at 39,750, while the Nifty50 added 16 points to end at 11,941.

    Indian benchmark indices BSE Sensex and NSE’s Nifty 50 are likely to open flat on Tuesday ahead of F&O expiry this week and as investors await Q4 GDP data due to be released on Friday.

    According to SBI research, India’s Q4 GDP is expected to moderate to 6.1 percent to 5.9 percent, which could pull down growth rate for the entire fiscal 2018-19 to below 7 percent.

    Asian shares traded higher after EU election results eased concerns about political difficulties in the bloc, although persistent trade concerns capped gains.

    Indian shares settled over half a percent higher in the previous session, rising for the second session after the Lok Sabha election results.

    At 7.15 AM, SGX Nifty, an early indicator of the Nifty 50's trend in India, traded 17 points, or 0.14 percent, lower at 11,907, indicating a muted beginning for the Sensex and the Nifty.

    Indian bourses are set for a tepid start on Monday amid muted sentiment in global markets and as investors turned their focus to the new government’s fiscal support plan and key economic data due to be released this week.

    Moreover, the Reserve Bank of India has announced that it will inject Rs 15,000 crore into the financial system in June through the purchase of government bonds in order to support the evolving liquidity situation.

    In global markets, Asian stocks traded marginally higher but gains were limited by concerns that the China-US trade conflict was fast turning into a technology cold war between the world’s two largest economies.

    The BSE Sensex closed 623 points, or 1.6 percent, higher at 39,435, up 4 percent for the week, while the broader NSE Nifty50 ended 187 points higher, or 1.6 percent, at 11,844, up 3.8 percent for the week.

    At 7.07 AM, SGX Nifty, an early indicator of the Nifty 50's trend in India, traded 32.50 points, or 0.27 percent, lower at 11,845, indicating a negative start for the Sensex and the Nifty 50.

    Indian shares are set to open with gains on Friday as uncertainty around the Lok Sabha elections faded after a historic mandate won by the Narendra Modi government. Election commission data showed Modi’s National Democratic Alliance has secured 350 seats, with BJP alone winning 303 seats in the 2019 general elections.

    However, negative global sentiment could limit gains for Indian shares. Asian shares traded near four-month lows and crude oil plunged on worries the US-China trade conflict could turn into a more entrenched strategic dispute between the world’s two largest economies.

    Indian benchmark indices the BSE Sensex and NSE’s Nifty 50 hit all-time highs in the previous session but settled 0.7 percent lower. In intra-day deals, the Nifty touched 12,000 mark and Sensex crossed 40,000 amid strong sentiment after the trends indicated that the NDA was set for a massive win.

    Earlier, the BSE Sensex gained as much as 1,015 points to hit a new high of 40,125, surpassing the previous high of 39,571.73 hit on May 21. Meanwhile, Nifty also surged 303 points to hit a record high of 12,041, surpassing the previous high of 11,883, hit on May 21.

    However, after profit booking, the Sensex settled 299 points lower at 38,811, 1,314 points lower from a record high, while the Nifty50 lost 81 points to end at 11,657, down 384 points from a record high.

    At 7.00 AM, SGX Nifty, an early indicator of the Nifty 50's trend in India, traded 62.50 points, or 0.54 percent, higher at 11,741.50, indicating a strong start for the Sensex and the Nifty.

    Stocks to watch: Reliance Capital, GIC Re, Cipla in focus.
