Marketplace

This week, Marketplace Weekend host Lizzie O'Leary looks at how oil plays a big role throughout our economy. We break down the history of America's reliance on oil, check in with an oil worker who travels throughout the world to work on rigs and learn why a gallon of gas costs what it does.

This weekend, Lizzie O'Leary looks at the uncertainty in the economy and stock market; why China's fast growth is now hitting choppy waters; and refugee Joseph Kim explains life after fleeing North Korea.

This weekend, we head to the Crescent City to see how New Orleans has changed in the 10 years since Katrina: a trip to the legendary Dooky Chase's Restaurant to meet owner Leah Chase; how rebounding employment numbers don't tell the whole story; and Big Freedia shows us where she learned to bounce.

Lizzie O'Leary looks at the place where art and money intersect. Just about all of us consume some kind of art: Music, TV, theater, even a ceramic mug. It's easy to forget that those things are a business. Someone makes them, someone sells them, and hopefully someone gets paid. There's a reason "starving artist" is a cliché. Today on the show we're exploring the economics behind all that creativity.
