The John Muir Trail is a mid-length trail, named after the great environmental pioneer of the same name. #332 - There are long races, Cocodona 350, Vol State 500k, and then there's the Sri Chinmoy Self-Transcendence 3100 Mile Race. This race is like no other. It is as much a personal journey into self discovery as it is a foot race. But it is still a race and if you decide this is the race for you, it will push you farther than you have ever been before. And if you complete it, you may find yourself returning year after year. Those who do it every year, return again and again. This week, I talk about why this race is so special and how it stands apart from all other footraces.

#331 - This past weekend, I had the pleasure of running one of the distances of the 2025 Napa Wilderness Race. It was a great and difficult race! I had planned to run the half marathon distance, but dropped down to the 10k and I'm good with my decision. I talk about my long weekend in this episode and why this race should be on your radar for 2026! 

I also have an apology to make. In this episode, I mistakenly said I met up with Tony and Blair when I meant to say Tony and Blythe. Obviously, I need to record this shows after I've had more coffee. Note taken.

#330 - You may have seen those terrific videos of Kenyan runners warming up with the various active exercises before they run. Those are plyometric exercises. This week, I talk about them; what they are and how they can help your running. And, as an added incentive: they're FUN! With only a few added minutes per session, you can reap the benefits of all that plyo can offer!

#329 - Remember the phrase "Go Big or Go Home?" Yeah, I got tired of it too. Unfortunately, I still hear it and see runners suggesting that they're not doing enough. Well, first of all, who are they to judge another runner and second, anyone who says that to another runner usually is trying to sell something, be it a book, personal training, running coach services or something else. With all we do, finding time to run is going big. We're not fulltime runners, so to make time out of our busy days to run or a herculean effort. And what happens if we put everything into going "big"? I go over that too. Overtraining has a lot of undesirable effects. I find it interesting that those are never covered by the Go Big crowd. #328 - I've done previous episodes about how to stay safe, but what if things go very badly for you on your trail run? This is a guide to help prevent many of the very traumatic things from happening. Of course, we can't prevent everything from going south, but we can help ourselves by not making us easy targets for future accidents. This is not to scare you, but to help you prepare and think before you go out on a long trail run in a less populated part of the world. It's to help you have more fun and less worries. #326 - One of the greatest races in the world takes place in South Africa. The Comrades Marathon can take place north to south or south to north, depending on the year. It is over 50 miles on hot pavement with a tough time limit. In my attempt to talk about all the great world running races, this week is focus on the Comrades. If you're fast and you dream of traveling to Africa, this may be your race!

#325 - Over 500,000 hikers went missing in 2021. There are not numbers of runners who go missing, but they would be drastically reduced. I go over the reasons for the discrepancy. This week, I talk about a few missing runners and what might have happened to them. Some of them have been found, some of them have not. There are ways to help us prevent becoming a missing statistic, which I also give suggestions. Of course, we can't prevent every occurrence, we can help make our runs safer. #324 - We all have our favorite places to run. They may be the places we run every day, or they may be places we've only run once or a couple of times, but we remember them for being outrageously beautiful, or maybe standing out as one of the best runs we can remember. Today I'm talking about my favorite places to run and hike. Some of these are places I go to regularly while others are routes that I've only been to once.
