Luke 9:23-24 says,
And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it.
This is to reject yourself in this nature of sin to kill it through turning away from your life to turn to take the new life in Jesus. Taking the cross is spiritual regeneration into the crucifixion of Jesus and rising with God in the likeness of the resurrection. You remain in God from sunset to sunrise following until you leave this Earth.
Luke 9:57-62 says,
And it came to pass, that, as they went in the way, a certain man said unto him, Lord, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest. And Jesus said unto him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head. And he said unto another, Follow me. But he said, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father. Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou and preach the kingdom of God. And another also said, Lord, I will follow thee; but let me first go bid them farewell, which are at home at my house. And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.
One says I will follow you wherever you are. I am without any place to rest my head. You willing to have no place to rest your head. Another told Jesus. First let me go lay my father to rest. Jesus said, let the spiritually unregenerate lay to rest the spiritually unregenerate. You preach to those that are still alive that are unregenerate to get spiritually regenerate to live eternally or they too will perish. Another says first let me say farewell to my family that are unregenerate. Jesus said no one that puts their hand to the plow the field for a harvest for the kingdom looking to the cares of this life is fit for the realm of the kingdom of God in the spirit. The cost of following Jesus is that you are crucified to this world system and this world system to you. If you love the world, then the love of God is not in you. God is at enmity with the world and the world to God. We are in this world as light, we are not of it.
Unless you are willing to forsake family for Jesus then you are not worthy of Jesus. Christ came not for peace, to separate a father from a son and on and on. They are of the world and we are of God when you are saved.
Acts 16:21 says, And teach customs, which are not lawful for us to receive, neither to observe, being Romans. Acts 17:6 says, that they turned the world to chaos not listening to Caesar saying there is one king Jesus. The apostles were using ecclesia to tell Caesar that they were called out of this world into the spiritual realm. They only serve one king Jesus. The point is that the kingdom of God is not of this world system.
We are to continue to follow God. John 8:32 says, So He said to the Jews who had believed Him, “If you continue in My word, you are truly My disciples.
A disciple is one that learns. What does it take to become a disciple? Luke 6:13 says, that Jesus called to Him the Disciples and also named them apostles. Discipleship consists of:
Call
1.) The Call of Salvation
God calling one out of this world system into His kingdom. Another scripture says to call one out of darkness into light. I John 1:5, says,
