  • Squad Goals #8: Noveria (Part II): Hot Labs!
Nick, Chip, and Kurabara are back to continue their journey through the universe of Mass Effect. This week, they have made it through the corporate espionage of Noveria and were able to get into the garage. After a Geth ambush, they were able to take a Mako and get to Peak 15 and the Hot Labs, where a bunch of bug-like Rachni and an encounter with Matriarch Benezia are waiting!
Kura is concerned that Peaks 1-14 are not accessible. He also talks about an odd bug that turned all his characters to squares briefly.
Nick starts talking about the Rachni showing up as a horror style threat, and compares the bug invasion of Noveria with the zombie invasion of Feros. They discuss the reasons for why the missions could feel so similar, down to an asari speaking for a powerful telepathic being at the end of the mission. They also talk about the difficulty of the Rachni as far as how strong they are as an enemy, and the presence of non-humanoid aliens in the game. They discuss how all this feeds into the decision of whether or not to save the Rachni at the end of the mission.
Next, they talk about entering the Hot Labs and dealing with the ECSB forces who are trapped and stuck defending against the Rachni. They also talk about the odd Asari who was meditating and how strange she was.
They also discuss the decision of whether or not to bring Liara on the mission, as she is Benezia's daughter. They talk about how bringing her into the room with Benezia triggers are quick cutscene that felt half-implemented. They also talk about how Benezia shows up and then dies rather quickly, and how her boss fight is not difficult. Nick also mentions that the Rachni Queen overshadows Benezia's death.
They discuss the quest to make a cure for Dr. Zev Cohen to get access to the maintenance tunnels to enter the Hot Labs where Benezia is. Kura is concered as after the Asari spy kills a guard, none of the witnesses point out that they just watched a murder.
They discuss how the Rachni travel through space. Then they talk about the final fight and having to shoot and run your way through a room full of Rachni.

  • The Tauren & The Goblin #128: On Folk & Fairy Tales of Azeroth (Part II)
Nick and Katie are back to talk more about the Folk & Fairy Tales of Azeroth book. They begin by getting into "Sister is Another Word for Always" by Catherynne M. Valente. They begin by talking about how this doesn't feel like a folk or fairy tale and is a bit out of place in this book. Then they get into the story itself, discussing how it is written such that it never names anyone except for a single character (the Kyrian Watcher) and makes sure you know where they are by description. They discuss how Vereesa would have found out about her sister's death and rebirth as a banshee and consider that this story must have happened before she would have known all the details. They review the statues of Regret and Acceptence and their relationship to Elomia, the Spirit Healer who watches over them. They try to consider where it may be in game. They talk about Vereesa going into the Shadowlands and finding herself first in Ardenweald, and then the Maw. They talk about her encountering the Jailer, and after a seemingly benign conversation, he reveals a part of Sylvanas. They debate just what part the Jailer has, as Sylvanas missing her courage does not make sense for her actions. They talk about how Vereesa is similar to Orpheus. They discuss how Vereesa fails to recover Sylvanas.
Next, they talk about "The Paladin's Beast" by Madeleine Roux. Katie runs through the story of Uther leaving Alonsus Chapel in search of deeds to perform and getting thrown from his horse. He travels through a puddle and wakes up in another land where a maiden mentions a challenge to fight a beast. They try to figure out where this story could take place and what significance the beast may have. Uther ultimately faces the beast and wins by laying down his hammer, and the Princess warns him that he will face another such beast and die. Nick points out that the story makes sense if you assume that Uther had a concussion and fever-dreamed the entire event. They talk about some of the parallels between the story and Arthas and Ali in the chat points out that the Princess' name, Miatharas, is an anagram of Arthas.
Finally, Katie recounts "For Lies and Liberty" by E.C. Myers. They both agree it is a fun story.

  • Push The Point #109: One Legend Retires Another Returns
This week LoBosco is joinedby Thibbledork since Ramses is still out of town. They begin their discussion by talking about the major player news that dropped, cover the games from Week 1 of the Summer Showdown and then wrap up looking ahead to Week 2 of the qualifers.
Striker, one of the legends of the game has decied to retire from the Overwatch League. Leaving a major void on a San Francisco Shock roster that has not been the dominate force of the past. In his stead ANS has retruned to the Shock, LoBosco and Thibble discuss all the implcations of both these moves and Strikers place in the pantheon of Overwatch. The Hangzhou Spark also made a move this week dropping their longtime DPS mainstay GodsB who has found himself on the outside looking in on the Spark's DPS rotation. The guys speculate on some good landing places for GodsB who at one time was one of the highest performing DPS in the league. The last piece of player news came from the Toronto Defiant, Beast announced his retirment, a once highly sought after Contenders player has not had the impact many thought he might in the league. His loss for passion and how often players cite that specific reason is also discussed.
LoBosco and Thibbledork break down the games from the previous week and highlight the two games from the Los Angeles Gladiators. The Gladators great potential and inconsistnecy were shown this week in both of their games, winning a hard fought for high paced 3-2 win over the Shock and a 3-2 reverse sweep loss to the Paris Eternal.
To round things out, the guys take a look at week 2 of the Summer Showdown qualifiers and give some of their most anticipated games for the week.

  • Squad Goals #7: The Space TSA & The ESRB
Nick, Chip, and Kurabara are back to continue their journey into the galaxy of Mass Effect! This week, they tackle the last of the three initial missions provided after leaving the Citadel: Noveria. They start off talking about the frozen environment that all the party members complain about but has no significant bearing on the game. Then they get into talking about the struggles of carrying too many items and too much omni-gel.
The get into the workings of Noveria, with Anolais the Salarian administrator overseeing a community shared by several biotech companies. Nick and Kurabara argue about how effective the security forces are against the Geth and the Rachni.
They talk about the encounters at the hotel bar. Nick was unable to convince Lorik Qui'in to testify against Anolais, while Kurabara was able to use an exploit talking to Qui'in to max out his paragon. Chip points out that the credit rewards offered for quests is insignificant compared to selling all the weapons you can acquire along the way. Kurabara runs through a corporate espionage quest that involves talking to an executive and stringing him along for as long as possible.
Chip talks about a quest for a smuggling Hanar and how he was able to use the quest to bypass the Lorik Qui'in parts of Noveria.
Nick is excited when he was able to get Lorik Qui'in to become the new administrator after Anolais was removed. Kurabara thought it was awkward because he never talked to Anolais to have any opinion on his arrest.
They also discuss infiltrating Synthetic Insights for information on Anolais' corruption, and all the different ways you can get your garage pass to head to Peak 15.
