Is it possible to get a job with a former employer after resigning?
Absolutely. In fact, some big names have done it.
Steve Jobs was forced out of Apple in 1985 and returned 12 years later and saved the company from bankruptcy.
Basketball player, LeBron James left the Cleveland Cavaliers for Miami, only to return a few short years later.
Steve Jobs and LeBron James are perhaps two of the best known examples of boomerang employees. Just like a boomerang leaves and returns to it’s place of origin, the same is true with a boomerang employee.
For some boomerang employees they return almost immediately, within a matter of a few months, because they realise their new role just isn’t for them.
In other cases, boomerang employees might spend several years at another organisation before returning.
While boomerang hiring has become more common in the last few years, there are some things to consider before becoming a boomerang employee.
