Max prepped at Urbandale High School, and was self proclaimed 'trash' at sports. We catch up with him just 1 week after being drafted by the Miami Dolphins. He recounts his journey from being an undersized, uncoordinated high school freshman who got benched by his dad to becoming an Iowa defensive lineman and getting drafted by the Dolphins. He describes quitting other sports to focus on gaining weight, battling injuries, learning Iowa’s fundamentals and disciplined defensive philosophy, and developing his own pass-rush “chess game” inspired by players like Maxx Crosby and Aidan Hutchinson, including the spin move that helped build his confidence. Luellin shares the stress of the Senior Bowl/combine interview grind, uncertainty about draft rounds, and the moment his name was called, plus favorite plays like his Nebraska strip sack.
