Be Still: Daily Devotional

May 11th

Listen Later

Today is May 11th.

Grace to all who love our Lord Jesus Christ with an undying love.

Take a moment and quiet yourself. Take a deep breath. Welcome God’s presence. And say, “Come Holy Spirit.”

Today’s reading is from Psalm 25.

"4 Show me your ways, Lord, teach me your paths. 5 Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.
6 Remember, Lord, your great mercy and love, for they are from of old. 7 Do not remember the sins of my youth and my rebellious ways; according to your love remember me, for you, Lord, are good."

The Psalmist is dealing with our past and our future in this Psalm. When we look at our past, we can sometimes feel remorse or regret about things that we have done. Sometimes those things can be overwhelming to us and can even create fear. But the Psalmist gives voice for us when we are overwhelmed with regret. He says, “Don’t remember me for what I have done, Lord. Remember me according to what you have done. Remember your mercy and love.” How does it make you feel when you consider that God will remember you according to what he has done, not what you have done?

The Psalmist also provides a pathway for the future. As you listen to the passage again, consider how the Lord will show you, how he will teach you, and how he will guide you, how he will be good to you in the future.

Your past is remembered in light of God’s mercy, and your future is secure in view of his faithfulness. As we close our time of prayer, praise God that you truly can be free of regret and remorse about what lies behind, and you can be full of hope and joy about what lies before, all because of his great love for you.
