  • Why is Alabama so Successful?
This episode comes fresh off of last night's exciting game for the NCAA Division I National Championship in football. I stayed up late to watch the game, which I normally don't do, and was glad that I did. In this episode I discuss some of the neat principles I saw displayed in that game that show why a program like Alabama has been able to continue its dominance in the collegiate football ranks.

  • Go To An Extreme
There's an Oblique Strategy that states "go to an extreme then return to a comfortable place". In this episode I break down why this strategy is spot-on for getting us to perform at a high level and continue to raise the bar.

  • James Piccoli Interview
James Piccoli is a cyclist for the Elevate-KHS Pro cycling team. Last season James had some stellar results that included an overall win at The Tour of the Southland, 9th place overall at the Tour of Alberta, 10th place overall at the Tour of Utah (which included a near win on Stage 2). This interview is not about what James did last season however but the journey and process that it took for him to get here. It's a great story of determination and grit that will likely see James do even more great things in 2018.

  • Learn the Alphabet
In this podcast episode I break down a quote from Epictetus in his book Discourses. The quote explains a critical principle if we are to perform at a high level given the fact that situations and circumstances are ever changing.
Here is the quote: ‘Tell me what to write whenever I’m presented with a name.’ If I say ‘John’ and then someone else comes along and gives him ‘Jane’ instead of ‘John’ to write, what is going to happen? How is he going to write it? If you have learned your letters, though, you are ready for anything anyone dictates. If you are not prepared, I don’t know what I should tell you to do. Because there may be events that call for you to act differently – and what will you do or say then? So hold on to this general principle and you won’t need specific advice."

  • Michael Hernandez Interview
This week's interview is with Michael Hernandez who rides professionally for the Aevolo cycling team (one of 2 U23 development teams in the U.S.). Michael is just 20 years old and it has truly been a pleasure watching his develpement and impovement. In the interview we chat about Michael's short but exciting cycling career thus far. It is so refreshing to hear Michael answer the questions I asked him with the maturity and overall good mindset of someone much older and wiser.

  • But You Gotta Have
We all know the drill when it comes to goal setting. We should write them down and tell others about our goals to help keep us accountable. Why is it that even with all of that we still do not achieve our goals sometimes? In this episode I discuss an often overlooked part of goal setting that sets us up for falling short of reaching our goals before we even begin pursuing them.

  • Tom Danielson Interview
The guest for this interview is Tom Danielson, former Pro Tour rider with Team Discovery Channel among other teams. Tom is currentlya coach and owner at Cinch Cycling. The conversation I had with Tom is full of his retelling of some of the experiences and things he learned in his cycling career and how it has led him to where he is now. It was especially neat to hear Tom say that he doesn't regret the path that he took to get him to where he is now, because he is more content with himself then he has ever been.
More information about Tom's Coaching Service can be found at http://cinchcycling.com
He also has a Podcast associated with his business: The Process with Cinch Cycling.

You may not need to hang on to them too tightly in the present moment, but rest assured that soon you will be tested and they will be all that you have.
