Types of Interview

It could be in person, skype or telephonic interview through Admissions officer or alumni or may be a student. If you have a choice, go for an interview with the Admissions officers.

Statement of purpose or an essay includes leadership examples related to academic and career accomplishments, long-term goal, short-term goal, and fit part to the school. MBA video interview or essay is a contemporary approach for applications.

Statement of purpose or essays should project an exciting and uncommon story, showing an applicant’s qualities which his or her recommender will also support.

Writing should be planned. Review and rewrite the draft checking the content, structure, flow, tone, sentences, words, grammar, punctuation, spellings and finally the length of the essays. It is advisable to restrict to the mentioned word limit. An applicant could always take others’ opinion for an objective analysis. The theme should be common in essays, recommendations, and interview. Therefore, an applicant needs to show where he or she is headed with his or her MBA and how they intend to get there.

Several business schools have recently added a new element to their MBA application process; the MBA video interview or essay, which is a contemporary approach for applications.

In this podcast, I have discussed 2 topics. The first is Types of Admissions Process & second is Application Time Schedule.

“Rolling admissions” means an applicant applies within the several month admission cycle. “Rounds admissions” means schools divide the admissions process into small periods. Number of rounds depends on the school specific policy. It is better to apply in the first two rounds especially for the international applicants.

It is a time-consuming process to apply to schools. Lack of attention to details can spoil the application completely. Once an applicant gets rejected, he or she becomes a re-applicant and then it is even more complex to convince the admissions committee of an applicant’s right candidature.

It is advisable to apply to minimum six or four schools. It is ideal to start about 15 months before an applicant begins his or her MBA Program.

Never make a mistake to apply in hurry as this increases the chances of sure shot rejection. Make a deliberate attempt to work on the timeline for the application process.

An MBA from a globally recognized school can assist in providing a wider and clearer perspective and handling stagnation in career. Top ranking schools support an applicant build personal brands, move up the corporate ladder, learn new skills and strengthen the skills an applicant already possesses, and the applicant can have an upper hand with the recruiter. Meeting people from diverse backgrounds can open new avenues to network efficiently and make valuable contacts worldwide. Interaction with alumni, other students, CEOs of top companies, industry leaders and attending guest lectures of people who matter may give an unimaginable insight.

Convince the school that you are a good fit. Apply to a number of programs with complete knowledge of the right program, work domain, place, climatic condition, and the school atmosphere. Once you submit your application, start preparing for your interview.

Business Schools have been flexible about granting deferrals to admitted students who submitted seat deposits and subsequently encountered visa obstacles for the class of 2020. Some schools cancelled MBA programs, some shifted to Online classes and some introduced new programs.

This episode is about Applicant’s Strategy to apply to Top Business Schools.

 

Online engagement is a challenge when it is compared against on campus education. Students might demand lowered fee structure.

If Business schools do give in to students' demands and offer affordable MBAs, then, there is nothing that can stop applications from flooding in for the class of 2021.

Focus is to create hybrid environment and facilitate best practices for engagement through Online education delivery and consequently better working styles.

Top schools such as Chicago, Kellogg, Harvard, NYU Stern, Tuck, Berkley Haas, Wharton have already taken steps, however, things are constantly changing. International applicants will be impacted.

The financial crash of 2009 had resulted increase in the number of applications to the Business Schools in 2010 and 2011. This for sure hints at a rise in MBA applications in the coming years due to serious impact of Coronavirus.

Round 1 will probably be an easier round than Round 2 for the class of 2021. However, an applicant should apply when he or she is ready with best to apply.

This Pandemic is sure to open new gateways for the MBA aspirants and Top Business Schools as well, creating new opportunities in different areas besides the traditional routes.

Real human beings prepared by the Top Business Schools will explore the roads less travelled.

There has been a serious impact of Coronavirus on Professionals, MBA Aspirants & Business Schools world wide.

While Placements, and summer internships have become virtual, employment challenges are increasing due to pay cuts and, job losses for professionals. Recruitment for the new MBA graduates are going to be some serious areas of concern.

Placements are already being affected, people with existing jobs are not safe from the on-coming economic tumbles. Jobs are being impacted negatively.

Here is a look at the current scenario and how Business Schools have already taken significant measures.
