hello and welcome to this week in
Montgomery County politics I'm bill
Brenda and I am with my co-host John
Boucher are you doing bill
I'm doing good how was your week been
John
oh it's been fun we had a golf
tournament for the Montgomery County
Republican Party here in Monday yeah it
was a lot of fun to raise some money
we've got a lot of elected officials out
there playing golf I tell you man I'm
very encouraged that I know our
constables are doing their job because
all these guys are terrible at golf
another doing what they're supposed to
do bill well you know let's see where's
the one John I was there we go I know
half the Montgomery County Sheriff's
Department out there playing although
random didn't show up I guess he was
back Manning the well somebody's gotta
watch somebody's gonna watch the bad
guys now I will say God was good that
day because it rained and it looked like
it might rain out and then we got a
break and it stopped raining
and then we finished the tournament
everybody came into the clubhouse for
the awards ceremony and the sort of
get-together the post golf tournament
get together and then I start raining
again bill so it was oh it was very very
cool it was a wonderful day it was
beautiful everybody had a great time and
we raised a lot of money so that was
really good and I've got to admit that I
played hooky in the morning I know some
of you got there at like 7 o'clock in
the morning and I had a livestream I had
to do that that evening and I knew that
if I was out there from 7 o'clock in the
morning till 3 o'clock in the morning
that I'd be falling asleep over at Grace
Church 3 o'clock in the morning
I'm sorry 3 o'clock in the afternoon I'm
thinking about going to your gigs
instead oh yeah those are those can last
for quite a while yeah but it was it was
amazing it was it was a great event as
our first one everybody was talking
before that's like we'll never do this
again this was so much work and as soon
as it was over people started saying hey
so next year when we do this thing so
everybody's excited about it success
sort of does that so of course we need
to remind everybody the
your day job is working over at Coldwell
Banker yes I'm a realtor with Coldwell
Banker if you know anybody looking to
buy or sell a home I'd love to talk to
them people move on average every five
years or so and there's a lot of this
online company sell your own home kind
of stuff but if you use a realtor you
get a lot more money for your house and
there's it really helps to have a
professional helping you with with such
a important transaction so please give
me a call at two eight one nine zero
seven three nine eight nine if I can
help you in any way with your real
estate needs or if you know anybody
that's looking to move or looking to buy
a home and if you want to discuss things
that are going on in politics in
Montgomery County you can call eight
three two nine nine zero nine one seven
zero when talked to us here on the show
yeah yeah and we we changed the format
up a little bit today we have a guest
today our guest is mr. Luke Reedus who
is working on the homeless problem here
in Montgomery County and Luke is with it
with an organization call sorry
compassion united is that correct
yep that's great so is homelessness
really a huge problem in Montgomery
County you know that was a that was kind
of a same question that I had whenever
we first began this we really felt like
you know we were supposed to be doing
something for the homeless and I'm
thinking homeless and Conroe all are
only experienced with Conroe at that
time had been my wife had an aunt who
had a lake house out on Lake Conroe so
we thought that's how everyone in Conroe
lived and then she became homeless
because exactly I think we're about to
experience out her so yeah yeah I
appreciate that know so yeah we uh we
woke up one morning you know it was
January the 7th 2006 my wife and I and
our three sons and we we made 200
breakfast tacos figured we were gonna go
feed homeless people because we felt
like that was what God wanted to do and
so we headed up north and and I'm
thinking well I don't know where we're
gonna find these homeless people on the
lake but really felt like instead of
turning left when we got to 45 we turned
we turn I'm sorry
we got to 105 we turned right and we saw
people everywhere you know kind of
hidden in plain sight you know yeah and
so yeah it's it's a lot more of a
problem and now that was really kind of
we what we saw was that Conroe was a
city that was having a a big city
problem with poverty and with drug
addiction but they didn't have the big
city solutions and so that was kind of
really the impetus for us to well I'm
gonna start doing we did and actually
the big city solutions is what got me
involved with Luke and what he's doing
because I was reading an article about
what's happening over in Austin and of
course the way they're handlin in Austin
is diametrically opposed to the way it's
being handled in Conroe and so we talked
a little bit about the Tale of Two
Cities and I read about Luke and how he
was being helped out by the city of
Conroe and went and talked to him and
was really impressed with his
organization and he was kind enough to
bless us with come on the show well I
read somewhere that there's over half a
million people who are homeless in the
United States on any given night does
that sound about right that sounds about
right
point one seven percent of the
population yeah that's pretty amazing so
I started looking up I told you I didn't
look into this at all I lied so I
started looking up to see where Texas
kind of ranked in that and not
surprisingly one of the the most
populous states for homeless people are
California in Florida but out of it's
somewhere in third place is Texas right
why is that why do you suppose not know
if I was homeless I want to live in
Florida you know yeah yeah no or
California obviously they have better
benefits in California right yeah yeah I
think that I think that you know in my
experience when we lived in Austin and
