In all my years living with depression, it was the way I allowed myself to think about myself, my circumstances and my life that caused me the most damage. It was all the negative thinking, all the self-criticism, all the hatred that infested me like an infection and led me down the darkest of paths when a depression episode, burn out, or a minor inconvenience came along.
“Be careful what you think, because your thoughts run your life.” - Proverbs 4:23
The best thing I ever did for myself and my family was to change the way I allowed myself to think. I instilled a zero tolerance policy for self-bullying and that inevitably led to a higher capacity for happiness. This is the first step to becoming a happy mom.
