On this episode James explores masculinity through the lens of media. He examines the examples of manhood we see represented in society at large, both now and historically. He ends breaking down the patriarchal toxic model of "man up" with a hearty middle finger from guest hip hop artist and poet, Kyle Tran Myhre AKA Guante.

What feeds the consciousness of someone who becomes so hateful and fearful of his own sexual desire that he would turn against those whom he has been led to believe are the source of his sinful desires and temptation? How many more out there are subject to the same influences? In this episode we are taking a closer look at the doctrines and teachings that fed the consciousness of a murderer.
We’re talking about the dangers of purity culture in light of the recent spa shootings in Atlanta. We will also examine some of the cultural biases in the United States that feed American notions about those of Asian heritage.

In our everyday lives, we spend so much of our waking hours running away from the present moment. We run around making ourselves busy, chasing whatever’s next. When we have a chance to stop this rushing and running, our thoughts are often consumed with fears about the future or regrets about the past.
The practice of conscious breathing is a way for us to stop running, quiet our minds for a moment, and fully inhabit the present moment with our body and mind. It can help bring us into a state of calm and ease, and leave us better equipped to face life’s circumstances as they arise rather than losing ourselves in constant worry about what *might* happen.

On this episode we're sharing some of your stories and ours about purity culture. Grace interviews three special guests who share their stories of growing up with purity culture in the Catholic and Mormon faith traditions. Grace and James share their stories of growing up with purity culture in evangelicalism. All of us share our shift of deconstruction out of that mindset, and reconstruction into relationships built on love and respect, rather than fear and control.

Hey Y'all! Grace here. If you, like me, have survived fundamentalism, I welcome you to this wholly irreverent space. A sanctuary of sorts for those of us who have broken free from all kinds of…
Often in the process of deconstruction, we find ourselves left with a void held for the casseroles and the cobblers. You know, the dishes dropped off on our doorstep during challenging times as an expression of care and belonging. As we build this community, I look forward to satisfying that longing by writing new recipes together and gathering each episode to break digital bread.
Wrestling with and reveling in our reconstruction, we explore many perspectives, sharing stories from all walks of life - creating functional beauty and discovering practical magic right in the midst of the messy, the muddled, and the mundane. Join us as we unashamedly and unabashedly cherry-pick ancient and modern practices to find out what works best for you and me in our daily lives.
On this podcast, I invite you to reconsider both mediocrity (and the way it makes the world go ‘round) and spirituality (and the way it works in mysterious ways).
