Metta bhavana—cultivating love—is a simple and powerful mind training, that rewires our conditioned responses of negativity and fear to create a pathway directing our thoughts, words, and deeds towards wisdom, joy, compassion, and clarity. Today’s meditation is the most common form of metta bhavana, using these traditional phrases:
May I/you/we be free from danger.
May I/you/we be free from mental suffering.
May I/you/we be free from physical suffering.
May I/you/we live with ease.
