Meet Me At Musial: A St. Louis Cardinals Podcast

After Winter Warm Up brought a little warmth to baseball fans, the stove caught fire and brought the heat as well.  Randal Grichuk is now a Blue Jay and the Cardinals have addressed their bullpen.  Is this a good move and what do we make of Dominic Leone?  Daniel (C70 At The Bat, @C70) and Allen (The Redbird Daily, @amedlock1) tackle that issue as well as other things coming out of the baseball extravaganza from last weekend.  Plus they answer your Twitter questions and get a few more Favorite Cardinals checked off the list.  Settle in for some fun Cardinal discussions!

It's Winter Warmup time, which is the kickoff not only of another baseball season, but another season of Meet Me at Musial!  Daniel (C70 At The Bat, @C70) and Allen (The Redbird Daily, @amedlock1) have their first guest as Adam Butler, also of The Redbird Daily (and @LanceDance1 on the Twitters) joins them to talk specifically about Winter Warm-Up, which will be happening in St. Louis this weekend.  Adam is one of the three United Cardinal Bloggers that will be covering the event and we talk about what he expects to see and topics of conversation at the event.  Plus the guys break down the arbitration signings, talk about what the Cards should still do this offseason, and go over a few more Favorite Cardinals!

There was a little movie that came out this month and it seemed reasonable for the Star Wars crew to get together and break it down.  Joining Daniel (@C70) this time beside stalwart commentators Tina (@ErdickStrom) and Steven (@SMcNeil_87) is a returning Kyle (@kyler416) and, making his debut, Tito (@triveratops).  There was a wide range of opinions on this movie and the crew get into a lot of the plot points as well as things that worked and things that didn't.  (Obviously, DO NOT LISTEN if you have not seen the movie.)  Plenty of good discussion is then followed up by a series of rapid fire questions.  End your year by heading to a galaxy far, far away!

After taking a bit of time off for Christmas, Daniel (C70 At The Bat, @C70) and Allen (The Redbird Daily, @amedlock1) are back to talk about all the comings and goings for the St. Louis Cardinals.  Let see, that'd be....well, there was....maybe....

OK, sure, it's been quiet since Marcell Ozuna came and Stephen Piscotty left, but is that a reason to write off the offseason?  Are the Cardinals done?  If they are, is the team better than it was when the season ended almost three months ago?  Daniel and Allen hash out why judging everything right now probably isn't the wisest thing.

Then they tackle some more of the Favorite Cardinals, including at least three Cooperstown members, a guy that redefined the game, and a number of '80s stalwarts.  Buckle in and spend the end of 2017 with us!

It was an active week for the Cardinals and Daniel (C70 At The Bat, @C70) and Allen (The Redbird Daily, @amedlock1) needed some assistance to get it covered completely, so they brought in Special Guest Star Tara Wellman (@tarawellman) of Gateway to Baseball Heaven and Bird Seeds fame to dig into it all.  Marcell Ozuna is the Marlin the Cardinals land--what are some reasonable expectations of him?  Did Miami get a solid return for their side of the bargain?  Stephen Piscotty is now an Oakland A.  Are the Cardinals really just being altruistic?  There's talk about players from Tampa Bay as well as Manny Machado.  Will any of those deals get done?  Plenty of wood on the hot stove, so pull up a chair and listen in!

It's been an interesting week for the Cardinals, even if it didn't turn out to be a very productive one.  The chase for Giancarlo Stanton, which at times felt very real, wound up today with the Redbirds issuing a press release saying they were out of the race given Stanton's refusal to waive his no-trade clause.  Daniel (C70 At The Bat, @C70) and Allen (The Redbird Daily, @amedlock1) talk about what this means for the club and what kind of letdown there will be no matter what moves the front office makes to improve the club now.  The guys also get into what those other moves might be, ranging from realistic to fairly far-fetched.

Daniel and Allen also talk about the newest Cardinal pitcher, Miles Mikolas, and his impact on the rotation, plus another edition of Favorite Cardinals!

Activity!  Warmth from the stove!  Sure, it's not that trade, but the shipping of Aledmys Diaz up north is still something worth discussing.  If nothing else, it keeps Daniel (C70 At The Bat, @C70) and Allen (The Redbird Daily, @amedlock1) from going immediately to Giancarlo Stanton.  Why did the Cardinals make this move?  Is there anything to the player that they got back?  What are the Jays going to get?

After that....well, it's Stanton.  The Cardinal representatives met with him on Friday, continuing the roller-coaster of news and emotion that we've dealt with as fans over the past few days.  Are the Cards close here?  Will they be able to acquire this big bat?  Can they rest on their laurels or will they have to get busy doing something else if they can get it done?
