Do you know the difference between good table manners and simply following rules?

In this episode of Megumi’s Daily Japanese Adventures, I talk about Japanese table manners and some of the cultural ideas behind them.

Many Japanese learners ask questions such as:

Should I hold my rice bowl?
How do I drink miso soup?
Is it really okay to slurp noodles?
What should I do with my chopsticks?

I also share a few real experiences that made me think about how people see and interpret table manners in Japan.

For many Japanese people, table manners are not only about rules. They are often a way of showing consideration for other people and respect for food.

In this episode, I talk about:

• Holding a rice bowl while eating
• How Japanese people drink miso soup
• Chopstick etiquette and common mistakes
• Why noisy eating can attract attention
• Hair, appearance, and impressions at the table
• Kitchen etiquette when visiting someone's home
• The idea of consideration behind Japanese manners

This episode offers natural Japanese through real-life stories while exploring Japanese table manners, culture, and everyday etiquette.

Have you ever returned to a place after many years and noticed something you had never paid attention to before?

In this episode of Megumi’s Daily Japanese Adventures, I share a story about a recent trip to Kyoto, a city I had not visited for several years.

The main purpose of my trip was to enjoy lunch at one of my favorite traditional restaurants. But as I walked through Kyoto and spent time there again, I found myself thinking about something much deeper.

It was the Japanese idea of ki (気).

From small everyday actions to the way people interact with one another, I was reminded how often this concept appears in Japanese life and culture.

In this episode, I talk about:

• A recent trip to Kyoto after several years
• Lunch at a traditional Japanese restaurant
• The meaning of ki (気) in everyday life
• Why Japanese people often pay attention to small details
• Consideration, atmosphere, and unspoken communication
• What Kyoto reminded me about Japanese culture

This episode offers natural Japanese through a real travel experience while exploring one of the most important ideas behind Japanese communication and culture.

In this episode, I talk about:

• Forgetting a bag on the Shinkansen
• How Japan's lost-and-found system works
• Leaving a suitcase in a taxi
• Searching for a taxi with almost no clues
• Why taxi receipts are more important than I thought
• A lucky ending that still surprises me
