This week we had a listener request to dive into our thoughts on the long-awaited Legacy Sequel to the 90's hit Hocus Pocus. So we asked Alexia from the Titanic Talkline pod if she would care to help us out and she found a virgin to light the candle and come and join us on our journey. We talk about the musical numbers, the technology gags, the bland teenagers, and the many things that did and did not work for each of us. So get ready to go amuck amuck amuck with us as we travel to Salem both past and present!
This week we have something extra special! We interviewed Robbie Banfitch about his new film The Outwaters! The terrifying found footage film is being rightfully called the best use of the genre since The Blair Witch Project, and we asked him all about the experience of making it! We also talked about how queer filmmakers are hitting it out of the park lately, the dangers of edging too much, which Real Housewives are the best, and naturally — what comes next for the talented director!
Have you ever crossed oceans of time to be with someone? Because Dracula sure has! This week we sunk our teeth into (sorry) the 1992 Francis Ford Coppola gothic romance horror classic - Bram Stoker's Dracula! We are joined by returning special guest Rachel Reeves, music guru and prolific writer and podcaster, and we really dig deep into all the moving parts that make this such an enduring film certain to pass the test of time. We talk the performances - both good and meh - the special effects, THAT SCORE!!! and the size of Dracula's, uh, fangs. We're all just searching for someone to turn our tears into diamonds after all!
We couldn't very well go through our first February as a podcast and NOT talk about Sleepless in Seattle could we??? So that's exactly what we did. We are joined this week by Kevin Uhrich -- contributor to Neon Splatter, Horror Facts and Film Cred AND host of the Video Confidential Podcast -- to help us get through this episode (mostly) without crying! We get into all of it; the funny, the sad, alternate casting that could have been...and Clayton does a stellar "Rita Wilson melting down about An Affair to Remember" impression!
"Roses are red, violets are blue, they'll need dental records to identify you." Just in time for its 22nd (!) birthday, we decided to take a trip down memory lane to that 6th grade dance that changed it all -- Valentine! We are joined by returning special guest Jessica Scott to talk all about this dumb, but very fun, little slasher -- or is it a secret giallo? -- that wormed its way into our respective hearts. We discuss the "mystery" of the "plot" and Denise Richard's impeccable performance, how amazing the Valentine's are (seriously, Arts & Crafts major?) and the weird discourse in the film about weight and sex! When in doubt, wax it (and please don't rinse your hair in the toilet)
Maybe there won't be marriage. Maybe there won't be sex. But, by God, there'll be dancing. We're talking about the 1997 rom-com classic My Best Friend's Wedding this week! We might even sing! It seemed only appropriate after all. We are joined by friend of the pod Jon Durgan to discuss all the amazing things this film has to offer us, even all these years later. We talk and laugh about the performances, the insane story, relationships, and how this might be the film to give girls everywhere unrealistic expectations out of gay best friends! And of course--THAT musical number. (and we really would love a prequel about the Vengeful Sluts)
This week we traveled all the way to Barrow, Alaska during a certain 30 Days of Night... We are joined by Jenn Adams, writer, critic, and co-host of the Loser's Club and Psychoanalysis Podcasts to help us out on this one - our thirstiest episode by far (and it's not just the copious blood drinking on display) and we get really into it! We talk about our love of good vampire stories, how the juxtaposition of blood and snow is never a bad time, and who the sexiest onscreen vampires might be for us. We also delve into the story and our different takes on certain ambiguities. Why did Josh Hartnett and Melissa George break up??? We also just are very thirsty. Like...I think a couple of us could have used a cold shower. Which is what makes it a very fun episode talking about a fantastic vampire film!
