  • Noticing Our Helpers: Gratitude for Guidance & Support

This episode carries over from our last conversation that God is in Everything. This thought/belief creates a premise and question about why we go through certain challenges if God is omnipresent. How do we try everything we know but sometimes nothing moves in any direction even with our best efforts?

It is true that life is full of ups and downs. The ebb and flow guide us through our transformations and they are for our growth. So, how should we get through difficult days, weeks, months, sometimes years when nothing or most things seem not to move according to our plan(s)?

Do you feel the universe supports you no matter what?

Noticing our helpers can shift our perspective from challenges, difficulties, to recognizing that we have helpers all around us each moment of everyday and we will always have them in one form or another. Let’s put that to the test.

Bring to mind anyone who has ever helped you in your life. Remember all the way back to your mother and father perhaps, or your family, those who helped raise you.

Recall who it was that taught you the most basic survival skills in life--who taught you how to eat, how to brush your teeth, how to tie your shoes...

Recall all the traditional teachers and helpers in your life, remembering who taught you how to read, how to critically think, who taught you how to ask questions, or wonder...

And then also invite in those who occupy non-traditional roles, someone you know who helped you by simply being an example, or a listener, or someone who was an inspiration.

And then maybe there have been helpers in your life who appeared in challenging ways, forceful, even wrathful perhaps, and if you’d like to, invite them too, to sit up there with the others, smiling down upon you.

Invite in anyone else who deserves a place of honor, anyone whose life has changed the course of yours. Anyone who has contributed to who you are.

And once they are up there, feel their presence. See them, smiling upon you, proud of you, loving you. Feel their support, their love and their care for you... Allow your body to be held by all that love and kindness, and recognize why it is that you are here, meditating, continuing to grow, continuing to learn, walking the path of self improvement.

Recognize also how precious that is, and recognize how each one of your helpers has somehow contributed to your arrival right here in this place and time. In your own words, thank your helpers. As you thank them, send them light from your heart, smiling back upon them, as they smile down at you. And then visualize each and every one of your helpers, and all the light surrounding them dissolving into one bright shining ball of gold.

Feel that light slowly descend from the sky above you to the center of your heart. Feel its warmth, the warmth of your countless helpers within you. Stay connected to that warmth as you slowly open your eyes. Remember all your helpers, and that light within you heart as you move about your day.

    Many blessings!

  • God Is in Everything: Finding the Sacred in Everyday Life

Today, I invite you to embark on a journey of exploration as we delve into the intriguing concept that "God is in Everything." This idea challenges us to expand our understanding of spirituality and recognize the divine presence in all aspects of life. So, let's dive in and discover the profound implications of this statement.

The belief that God is in everything invites us to embrace the mystery and paradoxes of life. It encourages us to let go of rigid definitions and open ourselves to the vastness of divine presence. By doing so, we can find solace in the unknown, appreciate the beauty of contradictions, and deepen our spiritual connection.

By embracing the interconnectedness of creation, finding God in nature, nurturing divine qualities in our relationships, uncovering the sacred in everyday life, and embracing mystery and paradox, embracing the comedy of life, seeking the divine in unexpected places, and laughing at our own imperfections, we can cultivate a deeper sense of joy, connection, and gratitude. So, let's go forth with a smile on our faces, and elevate a profound sense of spirituality and connection with the divine.

    With love!

  • The Power of Gratitude for Sleep

We live in the part of the world where our work schedules, and or stressful lifestyles have impact on how much and how well we sleep at night. This week’s topic is using The Power of Gratitude for sleep.

One of the reasons why it can be so hard to fall asleep at night is because we often have these feelings of agitation or worry or planning. Have you noticed this? Sometimes we're laying in bed, ready to go to sleep, or we just can't stop thinking about something. Thoughts just keep coming in and out of the mind incessantly.

Sometimes, we can have the same thought playing over and over and if we can't go to sleep, oftentimes there's this feeling of agitation that keeps increasing. One of the practices that we'd like to explore today is a practice of gratitude. A mindfulness practice of appreciating the things in our life or the things in our world that brings a sense of joy and happiness. This can help us to calm the body and the mind by focusing on that which is good or pleasurable that can help tell the body to relax, to soften, and to feel that for now, for this evening, everything will be alright.

So, to incorporate this practice in your routine, I would like to invite you to be in any posture you like and to bring forth a thought of something that you're grateful for. Something that you really truly appreciate. Maybe it's a person in your life. Maybe it was the weather today. Or a pet or an animal that you love. Maybe it's the fact that you're alive.

Let’s bring our awareness to those things that we're grateful for. The little things that we appreciate. Perhaps you have soft sheets in your bed. Maybe you appreciate how quiet the room is where you are right now. Maybe you appreciate that you have this time for yourself. To relax, to wind down.

To be able to find comfort in this moment with feelings of appreciation, warmth, safety, and feelings of ease in the body. Appreciating each breath. Each inhale and exhale this breath that keeps us alive. Relaxing the belly with each breath, each beautiful breath....

Feeling thankful for this moment of ease and comfort and safety.

Feeling appreciation for this moment of ease and well-being.

Letting go of any tightness and just inviting a sense of warm appreciation of kind awareness of our breath and our body. Consider this quote from Lufina Lorderaasch.

"Gratitude is not in the words but in the heart, which expresses it."

Gratitude is not in the words but in the heart, which expresses it. What meaning do you draw from these words? Gratitude is not in the words but in the heart, which expresses it. What meaning do you draw?

How does your heart express gratitude?

In what ways does your heart express gratitude?

How has gratefulness nurtured your love?

  • The Freedom to Be: Living Authentically Without Apology

The topic for this episode is “The Freedom to Be!

We celebrate independence as a country (as in many other countries) from imperialism, colonialism, and down to apartheid systems and invasions. The common denominator in all these systems is oppression. There is always a country, or another entity that holds power over something, someone, or groups of people. And “power over” is the keyword here.

When people have power over others, it means that they take away their very essence of being—and we see that in many ways, our suffering also increases under these kinds of oppression. And these kinds of oppression exist in many different areas of of our human experience—in varied institutions including education, religion, healthcare, legal, financial, et cetera.. Everywhere we turn, there seems to be an obstruction that impinges on our experiences. With time, we lose our way.

But there is always hope. The hope to seek new pathways that bring freedom that the heart so desires. The hope to dream new possibilities, and I know there are infinite possibilities available to us if we willing to take steps to free ourselves from any form of oppression.

We all have this hope and freedom embedded in our human psyche and the beginnings of tasting our freedom start when we are willing to cut the binding chords in our relationships, with partners, family, friends, colleagues.

    The freedom to be!

The freedom t be black and beautiful.

The freedom to be trans and walk freely into any building, school, that you choose.

The freedom to be LBTQIA and love the way you want to be loved.

The freedom to wear a hijab, a hoodie, and feel safe.

The freedom to express oneself with the very gifts endowed by the Divine.

    The freedom to worship freely.

We experience daily how hatred and love co-exist in ur world. We see rights being taken away at moment’s notice. But we have the ability and strength and desire to uphold the dignities that we know are our human right to be. We are not constrained to stay put because we have the option to open a window and let in the light that will shine on our spirit to bloom like a flower opening fully to its essence with any hindrances.

I will share a favorite quote by Hildegard of Bingen:

We cannot live in a world that is not our own, in a world that is interpreted for us by others. An interpreted world is not a home. Part of the terror is to take back our own listening, to use our own voice, to see our own light.

Thank you so much for your support, for sharing our podcast with friends, for discussing topics in your respective groups. Please send a note if you are interested in working one on one with me, and or join our reflective questions platform.

As we go about our lives today, and in the few days, weeks, months and years ahead, let us firstly take a look at the chords that need to be cut, so we can free ourselves a bit more. We have the right to be; the right to cultivate the freedom our hearts desire, that goes beyond ourselves and extends to all humanity. Overcome the terror to use your own voice, and to see your own light. You have the right to be a woman of power and grace!

Thank you so much and I will see you in a couple of weeks.

    Many blessings!

  • I Am Surrendered: The Power of Letting Go

Happy Friday, beautiful members of my tribe!

Who are members of my tribe? We are all women of power and grace. And who is a woman of Power & Grace?

    Here’s my definition…

She is unapologetically herself. She feels beautiful and fully present in her own reality. She understands love and speaks her truth. She acknowledges her strength, intuition and faith. Best of all, she sees her place in this universe, sharing her gifts with all! She is queen mother and daughter of the Most High One!

No one is you! No one can imitate you! No one can manage life with your exact same sensibilities, and that is your power. Cultivate inner peace so you will always be able to tap into your creative side because it is that unique expression that sets your heart apart from anything and everyone else.

So the topic for this week is I AM SURRENDERED!

After you have written your biggest dreams down, we have to surrender it before we get in the mode of setting expectations and becoming attached to outcome. I know we walk a difficult path sometimes. IT CAN REALLY BE HARD. That is why I applaud all women who bare their souls to bring awareness to issues in our society, AND we will make progress when we educate others that no one has the right to violate our space, body and sense of wellness. NO ONE!

If we can do this, together we will rise.

    HOW DO WE ACHIEVE THIS?

When you are facing challenges--relationship challenges, mother-daughter challenges, or other children challenges, educational challenges, career challenges, family challenges, and the list goes on, one of the ways to get relief is to surrender all to a higher power. Some of us believe that to surrender, we are allowing someone else to push all the buttons in our lives. But I assure you, that as a spiritual being, you are here to co-create with this higher power.

Surrendering may feel like a weakness — but in reality, it is the most uplifting place to be. Because you remove all resistance. Remember that what you resist, persists!

When you surrender, you let go of all expectations, unhealthy attachments, and outcomes. It’s like creating a space around you, and in that space, you are able to begin doing the inner work-- Go deeper, and deeper, and transform painful experiences one at a time.

Before you know it, you shift into a positive space where you surrender to love.

    To loving yourself fiercely.

To stop giving yourself to others so much..

And open to receive.. receive all the good that’s waiting to come into your life for your highest good.

    Simply…

I believe everyone can set aside 5 minutes each day to increase your focus, open your mind, and achieve your desired goals. All that you need to do is relax, close your eyes and breathe.

I have faced many challenges in my life. And oh yes! There were times I was beside myself. And some of these challenges started when I was very young. For example, Just before my eleventh birthday, when I was sent to a girls boarding school hours away from home. Yes, I hated it, but not because I was throwing a tantrum. I met some of the scariest women ever. And it crushed me, because I had this innate knowing how we women can be nurturing and supportive of one another. I wrote the details of some of encounters that made me despondent in my book Sankofa: Learning from Hindsight. But I had the inner strength to strategize my exit. I had the gift on intuition, and that tool helped me to cope and step aside from the trauma I was experiencing into a space that transcended this earthly heavy way of living. I learnt the technique of setting aside the painful realities, entering a space of peace, and clarity.

Please Surrender! You will find a new realm of infinite possibilities as you master this. By releasing what is rigid within us, we free ourselves from what holds us back. We open and soften our hearts to impassioned living and with purpose! How do we learn to surrender?

Let’s try a simple practice. for 5 minutes...

    Please listen to the end.

    Thank you and many blessings!

  • Dance, Shake and Roll with Life In Our 50th Episode!

This past week- the Tina Turner-an idol, an icon, a legend, a mother, a woman of power and grace left this mortal arena to claim her place in the spiritual realm.

In this week’s podcast I would like to spend some time talking about her and how she exemplified being a woman of grace and power.

In her 2020 book, Happiness Becomes You: A Guide to Changing Your Life for Good, she writes:

I’ve reflected a lot about adversity over the past decade while I battled a series of severe health crises that nearly killed me. Through it all, I had many opportunities to review my life and ask myself some tough questions.

How did I overcome so many serious problems? You might know the list, and it’s long—an unhappy childhood, abandonment, an abusive marriage, a stalled career,

There were so many external circumstances and forces I couldn’t change or control, but my life-altering revelation was that I could change my way of responding to these challenges. The most valuable help comes from within, and peace comes when individuals work on becoming their better selves. I started that work in my thirties, when I discovered the transformative power of spirituality.

Spirituality isn’t tied to any one religion or philosophy. It isn’t the property of a priesthood or clergy. Spirituality is a personal awakening and relationship with our Mother Earth and the universe that increases openness and positivity.

In almost every episode of this podcast, I have emphasized the importance of creating a personal spiritual practice. I know that our lives are only enriched by increasing devotion and relationship to Spirit. For Ms. Tina it was complete commitment to chanting the Buddhist mantra nam-myoho-renge-kyo. This commitment to spiritual practice requires discipline and a belief that no matter how bleak the circumstances there is something bigger, something better waiting to revealed in you and through you. Your wildest dreams, the ones that we too often keep locked deep within us are for you. They live just beyond that gap between your current reality and your best life. Your devotion, your spiritual practice is the bridge over that divide. As you cultivate this practice you step onto the path of the divine.

Your consciousness expands and you begin to see through the clouds and past your own limited perception of reality. From this vantage point, you begin to recognize the ways insecurity, self-doubt, fear, and resentment are preventing you from seeing the truth of your awesomeness. The more you grow in your practice the more you see the clouds, not as obstacles but as opportunities to add another another support under your bridge.

What we once perceived as problems become opportunities to see ourselves and our paths more clearly. Your true self grows stronger in this state of clarity as does your power to change whatever is stopping you for from manifesting that dream I know lives inside of you. So today, take a moment to write down that dream- write it all down, every detail. Let it be bigger than big. Let it be as fantastic and magical as it is. When you are finished read it back, change any place where you made it small or made it try to conform to your current circumstances. When you are done, I want you to read it back one more time and this time feel it in your heart, feel in the core of your being. See what it would look like, smell it, taste it, embody it with every cell of your being. And then I want you to put on a song that makes you want to dance, to celebrate. I want you to shake like Ms. Tina Turner when beat drops in Proud Mary. Move without thinking about rhythm or technique. Feel your inherent power. Feel your grace. Know that in this moment you are on the other side of that bridge. Know that if you can do it now you can do it again and again and again. Love yourself fiercely. Love every part of your life that has brought you to this present moment. Tina Turner concludes her 2020 book by writing:

If you could go back in time and change something in your eighty years of life, what would you change?”

    My answer? Nothing.

The good, the bad, the ugly, and the pretty, it all adds up to me. I honor my journey, all of it. Changing the past would mean changing me. And I like me, just the way I am. Why would I want to change anything?

    She continues:

I’ve already changed my past, by turning poison into medicine, and by raising my life condition, which transforms my perception of the past. Our perception determines the way events affect us. So, when we change the way a past event affects us, we effectively change the past.

In other words, since past, present, and future are seamlessly connected, a change in the present moment has the power to affect a change in everything throughout all directions of space and time.

On an even deeper level, the reason I happily and gratefully accept everything I went through in the past is because I believe every detail of my life is both my karma and my mission. We are all born with a mission, a purpose, that only we can fulfill.

When you live with a joyful sense of purpose, when you infuse your life with a greater purpose beyond your individual self, every aspect of your karma can become a brilliant facet of your mission. You can transform sorrow and adversity of any sort into joy, stability, health, and prosperity. By changing poison into medicine and accomplishing your inner revolution, you can use every experience of karma to encourage others who suffer from the same problems that you overcame.

You can become an ambassador of hope, an essential and radiant treasure of humanity, in which you recognize that all who have ever lived are members of your extended family.

As you continue to spread light in this way, actively doing good in the world, that energy will come back to you in abundant positivity. When you refuse to perpetuate any bad that has been done to you, you can free yourself from the chains of negativity.

Use your life for peace and goodwill. Keep on going until you climb the summit of your happiest dreams.

In your heart, I see the start of every night and every day

In your eyes, I get lost, I get washed away

Just as long as I'm here in your arms

I could be in no better place

    You're simply the best

    Better than all the rest

    Better than anyone

    Anyone I ever met...

  • Breathe: A Simple Practice for Instant Calm

My goal is to share some personal experiences with you in this episode. I have, in almost every episode, underscored the importance of having a spiritual practice and I feel it is pertinent to share a personal journey I experienced with you because it showcases how our world could expand when we open ourselves up to spiritual intelligence. It guides us to some awesome places. My goodness! What a treat!

WHY DID I title this episode Breathe?

No one taught you and I how to breathe.

Supposing you were given all that you desire in an instant but you were told you will not open your eyes again, or breathe again, would you still accept it?

You see, there is a gift in the challenges we may be going through. It fosters our growth and transformation. It gives us something to work at, to expand to, and from personal experience, I can assure you how exhilarating life looks and feels when you come to the end of a transformational journey.

So just breathe! Take it all in and release what does not serve you with the exhale.

    Much love.

I have talked about distractions in the past and the many different ways that we get distracted from our paths and journeys of love. If you think about it, and all the people you know in your life, destructive criticisms come from just a handful of people, yet they seem so “loud,” it can make you feel like everyone else is against you. After a while, you become sensitized to their noises, and you begin to "forget" about all the other people who truly love you. You also begin to forget about who you truly are.

How would you go about changing the tide?

I will give you a few tips....

  • Do Self-Love Right Now!

This episode is a meditation for self-love. It is important to allow the natural love for ourselves to be expressed, and we must make a concerted effort to reveal it’s beauty very often throughout each day of our lives.

Our ability to breathe at will, in all different kinds of ways, is a gift. Our breath changes, as needed to the demand of exciting circumstances in our lives and flowing effortlessly when we are resting. Let’s use the power of our amazing visualization abilities to induce self love.

    Hear yourself saying:

When I fully love myself, I am able to fully love others.

Deciding to love myself is a wonderful agreement.

    There's more...

    Many blessings!
