Has the AFRICAN-AMERICAN community itself gotten past the issue of COLORISM? A few years ago KENDRICK LAMAR intentionally chose DARKER MODELS for his Poetic Justice video, but that was viewed in the HIP HOP industry as going against the industry norm. In the past LIGHT SKINNED BLACKS were deemed to have more privilege than their darker peers, which often lead to different degrees of envy (i.e. WILLIE LYNCH). This week's CONVERSATIONS W/ SMART PEOPLE series features in the 1st hour (10am-11am) radio personality/spoken word artist/entrepronegro, MS DIA, as we explore this Queen's many talents as producer and host of The Show ATL and her background to include her DETROIT upbringing and her Love for the late great hip hop producer, J DILLA.  In the 2nd hour (11am-12pm),  we are featuring spoken word artist, self-proclaimed FEMINIST, and sometimes co-host of the MENTAL DIALOGUE talk show, SOUL SCRIBE.  Some were surprised to find out about JAY-Z's recent deal with the NFL teaming up for events and social activism, in lieu of COLIN KAEPERNICK's protest and battle with the NFL. They called JAY-Z an opportunist who consistently sells out BLACK PEOPLE for his own bottom line.  Others support this partnership as a great opportunity to help those disenfranchised people KAEPERNICK kneeled for in the 1st place.  Former ESPN analyst, JEMELE HILL, wrote an article condemning the move, while many are not surprised that First Take’s STEPHEN A.  The FEMINIST MOVEMENT over the last 50 years has recruited BLACK WOMEN, whereas historically they were just fine with RACIAL INEQUALITY. Co-host, DIVERSITY expert, LATRICE ROSS, and special guest, relationship expert, MALAIKA WELLS drops by to discuss the FEMINIST MOVEMENT'S relationship with WOMEN OF COLOR. WHITE FEMINISTS are quick to espouse EQUAL PAY & #METOO, but often are oddly silent when BLACK WOMEN have issues that include the intersectionality of RACE.  Some argue the movement is used to divide BLACK MEN & WOMEN, while others suggest that argument is used as an excuse not to provide GENDER EQUALITY.  Which is it?  MENTAL DIALOGUE asking the questions America's afraid to ask. ALL I ASK IS THAT YOU THINK 

 CALLING ALL FATHERS!!!  What advice/game do you provide your DAUGHTERS about their intimate relationships with the OPPOSITE SEX?  Are you telling them to wait until MARRIAGE to have SEX?  How do they distinguish if a man just wants SEX or a RELATIONSHIP?  Do you leave the BIRTH CONTROL discussion to their mothers?  Do you give them advice on protecting themselves from SEXUAL/PHYSICAL ASSAULT?  What advice do teach about avoiding emotional/mental/physical abusers altogether?  Do you take your teenage daughter on dates, to be an example?  MENTAL DIALOGUE asking the questions America's afraid to ask. ALL I ASK IS THAT YOU THINK 

 A man once asked MARCUS GARVEY whether he was AFRICAN or JAMAICAN.  He said, "I would never give up a continent for an island. I am an AFRICAN, today, and for all of tomorrow."  Yet for all of Garvey's great work, not only do AFRICANS & BLACKS in the Western hemisphere seem divided, but CARIBBEAN BLACKS & AFRICAN- AMERICAN cultures, despite some similarities, also seem to suffer from the same riff, WHY?  Does WHITE SUPREMACY pit the cultures against one another?  Are the values similar enough or too different to come together?  What about economically & politically?  Does the resurgence of U.S. REPARATIONS for American Descendants of Slaves (ADOS) add angst to this divide or do CARIBBEAN BLACKS understand the distinction?  MENTAL DIALOGUE asking the questions America's afraid to ask. ALL I ASK IS THAT YOU THINK
