Our Kids in Mind

Mental health in schools with Pooky Knightsmith

Listen Later

Pooky Knightsmith is very much a powerhouse in the arena of child mental health, possessing a PhD from the Institute of Psychiatry, having formerly been chair of the Children and Young People’s Mental Health Coalition and advocating tirelessly for mental health provision in schools.

In this discussion, Bettina and Jane learn more from Pooky on her brilliant books and how within them, she manages to share her knowledge to both teachers and parents at the same time. They explore the intrinsic drive for teenagers to work things out for themselves, the role of schools in supporting student mental health, and how as a member of school staff, the difference a little thing, like smiling at a child as you pass them in the school corridor can make to helping them feel held in mind.
