On Sunday Rob began a new sermon series called Building Up the Body. With this first message from Ephesians 2, we seek to answer the following questions: Why give so much of yourself to this church? How would Jesus like us to answer this question?

Colossians 1:22 says, "he has now reconciled in his body of flesh by his death, in order to present you holy and blameless and above reproach before him." As New City Presbyterian Church Planter Jake Patton shared with us on Sunday, Christ doesn't cleanse us to love us; He cleanses because He loves us. Jason Webb teaches on grace during our latest Mercy Summer Fellowship.

Our corporate confession of sin on Sunday began in this way: "O Gracious God and Father, forgive us for the way we have neglected and misused the good gifts you have given us. We have slept carelessly, when we should have been wide awake. We have shunned opportunities to serve you and find sweet fellowship in your presence when we should have faithfully followed your call ..." From Acts 20:1-7, we see God's goodness and mercy on display and that He speaks to us, strengthens us, and comforts us through His means of grace.

In our spiritual battle, the only weapons with any effectiveness at all are spiritual weapons and the only way we get those weapons is to cast ourselves to the Holy Spirit. He is the one who straps on our armor. As we continue our study on spiritual warfare, we see our need to be brought to complete dependence on the Holy Spirit.

How do we put on the armor of God? We have to grab hold of it. But how do we do that? By faith. Galatians 2:20 says it well: "I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me."

In his second message from Ephesians 6, Rob encourages us to stand together, stand defensively, and stand dependently. "If we're going to stand, we have to stand together. And yet the beautiful thing is this: that if we stand on the solid rock, we stand together with one another then there's grace that we have to offer one another, and there's grace that others will have to offer us."
