However, according to Liv's past life as a merman there is a high probability of a half fish - half human subspecies living within the depths of the Earth's oceans. 

The aquatic beings which Liv speaks about are not the same however as the the folklore merpeople we may know from stories. These mermaids exist, but perhaps they are apart of an alternate timeline or parallel universe??.. We know. This hypothesis may sound fishy. Even out of this world. But let's be honest. Both assumptions are true...
