Everything about the church, the Christian and the Christian's lifestyle flows from understanding and living according the Jesus's exemplary life and personhood. These days you can notice that the church is about everything except Jesus. Theologians and pastors are writing books with titles like, "Christ-less Christianity." In our study of the Sermon on the Mount I asked the prayer meeting crowd if they thought that someone embodying Jesus's Beatitudes (MT 5) would ever get elected as President? They said, "No" "Why?", I asked. The answer was "FEAR." They were right. Fear and courage don't usually inhabit the same space. It takes more courage to live by the tenets of the Sermon on the Mount than to retaliate, hurt, slap, shoot, get even, hold a grudge or live with prejudice. My topic is Jesus as healer. The text is Mark 2: 1-12. Jesus cured a paralytic whose friends lowered him through the roof because the house was too crowded. Notice the first thing that Jesus said to the paralyzed man. Why do you think that was so important?
