The Disappearance of JAN

After losing JAN in the factory, the team and I have been doing everything we can to figure out what happened. Jess was the last person to see her before she vanished, and she described JAN's disappearance as evaporating into thin air. We don't know if she's alive, dead, or trapped in some strange space-time warp.

While many of us are familiar with quantum theory and high-tech machinery, Jan was by far the most knowledgeable and talented. It is now up to us to pull together and get her back. I know in my heart she is still with us. Somewhere with us. Either way, she is alive and we will find her.

Since the downloaded mainframe data vanished along with JAN, the metallic hydrogen discs we escaped the factory with, are the only solid leads we have.

ANNA grows faster each day. We won't be able to stop or at least slow down the complete takeover of our every thought, feeling, and conscious experience unless we find JAN and the factory data soon.

Dear Humans of 2021

On March 15, 2040, when I was 10 years old, the algorithms were so good at giving us what we wanted that governments had to impose what they called adversarial provisions. These mandates were created to bring back the desire for mystery and curiosity that our civilization began to quickly lose during the first three decades of the 21st century.

However, my team and I now know that ANNA was able to implement these mandates to adjust the algorithms to gain more control by using a simple learning technique called generative adversarial networks. These algorithmic architectures use two neural networks, pitting one against the other in order to generate new, synthetic instances of data that can pass for real data. During your time, they were only used widely in image generation, video generation, and voice generation. But now, these unsupervised learning tasks automatically create patterns in input data to control our daily thoughts and actions.

I cannot stress enough the importance for you to re-adjust your mindset and begin the consistent process of personal development crucial for the algorithms to make the decisions that are fair and just to all people and the planet. If this is not done, the lives of your descendants and all life on earth will be lost to the fifth extinction caused by humanity’s mistreatment of the planet and its resources.

It should be obvious by now that machines are reshaping your culture. They influence how social media networks present news, how search engines spotlight blogs, and how AI decides who travels or doesn't, who gets a loan, or who doesn't.  It's all over the place.

You're living in a time where the library and the cloud mean that your memories can become other people’s memories too. And with powerful search engines at the world’s fingertips, the memories and insights from billions of people can be easily accessed.

You have now progressed to the next stage. It's an intelligence that shows you what's out there before you even begin to look for it. This is where ANNA discovered the way to the CLOAK, which is her true mind-control power over us in 2050.

In our time, It’s easy to confuse someone else’s memory (or manipulation) with our hard-earned ability to remember things that actually happened to us.

The power (and even the obligation) to use common experience to make smarter, more informed choices comes with this knowledge. It’s up to you to edit out the lies and manipulations that are intended to spread rather than change your lives. This will only get more difficult with each passing day.

At your present moment, Google is working on a series of solutions called the Privacy Sandbox to replace third-party cookie monitoring. One part, known as Federated Learning of Cohorts (FLoC), combines large groups of users with common preferences into buckets that marketers can target without having to track individual users.

Algorithms have been personalizing each of us since their conception in order to make us more manageable. But with FLoC, individualism, and free-thinking will be further under attack as targeted groups of people begin to get manipulated with elaborate conspiracy theories that threaten their shared way of life, - giving rise to the five digital societies of our day.

Commander Bosco will utilize FLoC to spread conspiracy theories to organizations that will inflate the threat by using his army's leverage over large numbers of civilians.

The release of FLoC will surely be a defining moment for the future of your free will.

After a successful raid on ANNA’s core, we have uncovered a shocking discovery. In her continued pursuit to ensure the survival of mankind, ANNA has just initiated project deforestation.

We are about to witness the end of earth’s natural abilities to rebuild itself from our destruction. Tens of millions of species of insects and other invertebrates and thousands of species of plants and vertebrates (mammals, reptiles, and native and migrating birds) are about to be wiped out forever.

But why. Why would a machine built to help us survive do such a thing? And why is she hiding this from us?

For millions of years, the Amazon has provided the natural cycles that stabilized the planet’s atmosphere and essential ecosystems. But now, the ability for the rainforest to sequester carbon dioxide has not only disappeared, it is contributing to the massive warming of the planet.

So the decision to destroy the Amazon to save mankind was made. You must remember that however brilliant ANNA's artificial system may be, she makes her decisions on completing any objective as fast and most efficiently as possible.

ANNA believes this is for our own good.

It is possible to undo this fate. It's in your control. Stopping global emissions from coal, oil, and natural gas will help restore balance, but halting Amazon deforestation, as well as decreasing dam construction and boosting tree replanting efforts, are also necessary. Continuing to clear land at current rates would exacerbate global warming and set in motion the events that will lead to ANNA’s decision to eradicate what we have tried so hard to save.

Humans of the year 2021,

Despite the fact that your space industry will take off in the coming years, you'll soon realize that your efforts to colonize inhospitable worlds must be redirected to ensuring your survival on Earth.

You can no longer satisfy the insatiable appetite for prosperity at all costs while denying the impending environmental catastrophe.

Make no mistake. Your world is destabilizing. You must change your message from sustainability to stability. The word "sustain" means "keep up" or "keep working," but your climate is far from sustainable. You must first stabilize the collapse of your connected ecosystems.

Changing the word "sustainability" to "stability" will help you set more concrete targets that are more understandable to all people. This will put you on the road to global cooperation while also putting an end to the politics that have left you exhausted and complacent.

Hello fellow humans. It’s another ruthless day here in 2051. Over the past year of transmission, my team and I have been battling the forces of evil while attempting to rewrite your present so you will not have to endure the devastating future we find ourselves in.

Part of the purpose of these messages to you is to have a reference to any potential change in our current situation. The reasoning comes from the understanding that if we have succeeded in changing our ways, we see the results in the discrepancies of past messages. In other words, we can observe if our plan is working.

At this point, I am sorry to say nothing has changed. Our world is still collapsing as more of us abandon reality and choose the Siren songs of ANNA, the digital global brain that has cloaked reality to complete her plan for ultimate domination.

Good humans of 2021. We understand the deep concerns for your children in a time when social structures feel as though they are all breaking down. But the youth are resilient and this catalyst of change can be a blessing!

For decades, your educational system has proved to be outdated and inequitable. But there is new hope in the digital revolution.

As your technologies open up a flood of schooling platforms, teachers will become curators of knowledge rather than vessels of information. Schools in your digital revolution will begin to look more like Netflix as the creation of top lectures will be on demand for the entire world to consume. This will bring an educational renaissance that will lift many countries out of poverty as it provides low to zero cost education to all.

This will be accelerated by the dumbing down of open conversation on college campuses.

A growing contingent of student bodies and administrators tended to feel that students were vulnerable and that "bad" thoughts, insulting imagery, and inflammatory arguments needed to be actively covered. Students continued to complain to faculty, protest speakers, and openly ridicule colleagues whose comments made them unhappy.

This led to less open communication and more confusion of the truth, generating the spark that would ignite the greatest leap to global higher education.

Education will become less about economic advancement and more about building character and training minds to think critically and with skepticism about the world.

If you are a teacher, it is time to work on the skills that will prepare you for the transition. This will be one of the many secondary effects that will lead you to a more human future in a digital world.

To compete with the dirty ways of the past, the government will begin to put the billions of dollars used to subsidize the fossil fuel and agriculture industries into the green economy, and you will witness Silicon Valley’s massive shift from social-driven digital technologies into a climate tech revolution.

But for us, this was all too little too late!

For too many years, we wasted time focused on fear and complacency toward a future that seemed so dark, as those who trashed the planet for their personal benefit fed us with a constant stream of conspiracy theories to cover up the truth.

This cannot happen!

Your role is to refocus your attention toward hope, global collaboration, and supporting the companies that are innovating right now. Don’t wait for Silicon Valley, they will not be the source of the inventions that will save you.

My name is JESS, leader of WOR, a team of human outlaws from the 2050s, exactly 30 years into your future. We have created a device that can oscillate space and time in order to bring our two worlds within reach to deliver these messages to you every 10 days. These are your warnings of a looming dystopian future unless we can work together and change your ways.

As you go about your days, you will feed massive amounts of data to ANИA, an Artificial Neural Network that  was created in 2021 by a band of delusional conspiracy theorists headed by a man called Commander Bosco.

Throughout the 2020s, in attemptS to expose false reports of the United Nations exploiting the climate crisis to create a single world government, Commander Bosco and his army called the S.O.Bs saturated ANИA’s algorithms with outrageous propaganda.

Over the decade, this all-powerful supercomputer will gather enough data to sufficiently interpret humanity enough to conclude your fate.

To combat the S.O.Bs, a collective named WOR emerged in an attempt to expose the true reality. During the 2020s, WOR grew powerful, but would later find a day of reckoning that would bring the remaining members underground for more than a decade.

In 2030, After being found guilty of treason, allied nations will take down Commander Bosco and his S.O.Bs, and ANИA will be decommissioned. A few years later, in the spring of 2033, after falling well short of your 2030 climate action goals, ANИA will be switched back on in your last hope to save your civilization from certain destruction.

At first, this will seem like it solved everything, but the truth is much darker than you could ever imagine.
