On Sunday Nov. 14, survivors of the Tuam Mother and Baby Home will gather as they have done in the past, to commemorate the lives of their loved ones. Those bodies have yet to be exhumed, examined, and then buried with dignity.  Then and only then will their relatives be at peace and have closure.  The moment will be marked at 6pm on Sunday in Tuam when a lantern is carried into the town to the place where the remains of those children were disposed of.  Please remember the children, their suffering relatives, and please support all and any calls for the exhumation and reburial of those little bodies.

What is a ghost. Someone who has gone to the other world? Maybe. or maybe just an old friend that you always remember and who is a ghost in your life. In my life there are many people who were so pivotal that I call them guides. Moments of no consequence when I bumped up against someone and felt they had changed me; their presence altered how I thought about the universe. Some of them are still on earth and some of them are gone to the realm of all souls and saints. Those are my ghosts for this Haloween. I hope you enjoy meeting them.

And it was in the book STARING AT LAKES, and at this time of year as we go into autumn I think about people suffering from depression and chronic loneliness. So I really wanted to share my own personal experience, both in the poem and by reflecting on it. What I found is not an explanation of sadness, but a way that got me out of it.
