I lay awake wondering how to make a podcast in the face of the war that began last week in Ukraine. What do I say ? How do I go on ?

And then it came to me -  this podcast is a storytelling podcast. it's about how I'm feeling and what I'm doing and what strategies do I use to survive and maintain mental health. So all I need to do now is keep the podcast going and keep talking and sharing how my journey is going, hoping that by sharing it with you, you will feel less alone, and have more permission to access your own heart and soul.

This is maybe the best podcast I've ever done. Or at least the one I'm most satisfied with. It's a meditation that sums up everything. And it just came to me, on a dreamy quiet evening in February when I was thinking about Valentines day and then drifted into a reverie about meditation and mindfulness that floated between Buddhist and Christian ideas. 

But this is a very simple pathway, and I hope you enjoy it. I also used that famous Tibetan text (Eight Verses Of Mind Training ) which is an exquisite jewel of Tibetan Buddhism.

Wow. There's a lot of autobiographical stuff in this meditation. But it's a special day for me. so here it is;

My life going on elsewhere is the key to this meditation. That in everything I'm doing there is something bigger than me calling me. So sometimes life feels like it's going on elsewhere, and it means I must change my life. I must listen to the heart, and follow it, no matter what chaos is that creates. the Source draws us forward, like the rays of the sun. and in old age and ill health I find the same thing. the Source calls me home to live in the body.

So this is it. For Brigid's day, I wanted to share how I feel when the tide goes out, and I find myself becoming a bag of existential anxiety. Or as they used to say, I found myself in a dead zone, without god or meaning. What to do about that. Well don't panic. The tide went out. The tide will come back in again. Hope you enjoy.

Last week I got gas in my eye during an operation. Maybe some of it went to my brain and lodged there because this meditation is tinged with the colour of an unhinged mind. It goes like this. I knew nothing as a child. I was too stupid to learn anything. So I turned inwardly to the beautiful world of the imagination, where deities reign supreme. The deities that carry me through the darkest storms. (And listen out for my gorgeous clock chiming.)

Before I say I love you I must love you. otherwise I couldn't say it. It's a paradox. and it's the same with any faith. Saying what you believe strengthens what you believe. But you can only say it if you believe it. This about this podcast as a consolation for the winter time. Despondency is what we need to avoid. And only faith can help.
