In December of 1998, 14-year-old Michael Politte was enjoying a sleepover at his home with one of his best friends. He was awoken in the middle of the night to a haze in his room and the smell of smoke. He woke his friend up so that they could go investigate what was happening. As they walked from his bedroom toward his mother’s room, they saw a glow emanating from underneath her door. When they opened it, they were horrified to find 40-year-old Rita, Michael’s mother, on fire from the waist up. This is the story of Michael Politte - a 14-year-old boy, whose mother was violently murdered and whose death would land him in prison for a large portion of his life. But did he do it?
