My schedule has been quite full, and my to do list moreso, but how do I decide what should be at the top of that list, and what's at the bottom?  

The answer is to start with the key goals. What do you want to achieve in the end? What's the big target?  

Now, look at the to do list. Which items on the list move you directly towards those goals? Do those first. Then do the rest.

The best way to learn what you are capable of is to be forced to go beyond your perceived limitations.

Most of us place limitations on ourselves far before the end of our true capabilities.

At Mystic Dojo - Yamashita International Karate last night, we were instructed to partner up and perform a side kick to our partner's upper arm then a roundhouse kick to their other arm at chest level.

As described, I would think that was impossible. I can't kick that high. I'm not that flexible. But Kyoshi says kick, you kick, so I kicked...

...and I hit the target! I didn't do any special stretches. Just tried, and succeeded at something I didn't think I could do.

Be yourself! Everyone else is taken.

There is a temptation online to exagerate how awesome you are. Maybe it's just a bit of whitewashing of your story, leaving out the bad parts. Maybe it's a bit of overstating the good parts.

In the extreme, you have these "influencers" renting fancy cars and fancy houses to make it look like they're millionaries when they just put the rentals on their credit card.

Lying is hard work, and never pays off. You spend your life in fear that you'll be found out, and there is no true success in it.

On the other hand, when you are honest, you can create honest relationships, honest success. People can learn from your real story.

It also means that when you do have success, it is more interesting to people. They know they can believe it. They know it's not just hype.

So be your authentic self.

But what if you don't like your current truth? Change it! Become better. Do better.

Recently, my daughter learned to swim without floaties for the first time.

As she was first starting, she would grip my hand with hers to prevent from sinking. It did keep her from sinking, but it also kept her from swimming.

It was only when she let go and took a leap of faith that she was able to experience he joy of success.

The other interesting learning is that I can barely swim. I don't like swimming. I have a bit of a fear of water, especially going under it. Rowan has no fear of water and loves going under it.

This means that I, as a barely capable swimmer, was able to coach her to become a decent swimming in only two hours. I did this by helping her to subdue her fears in order to access her inner knowledge.

This is the exact same thing I do for my students, many of whom do things in their business that I cannot even concieve of. My job is not to teach them to do their jobs. They're already experts in that. My job is to teach them to unlock their potential and deploy that knowledge where it will do the most good.

The world is always changing, but we are forced to be more aware of it in the age of Covid.

6 months ago, going to the store was like storming the enemy supply depot. You would prepare your supplies, map out your route, strike fast and hard, and return home, hoping not to need to venture out again for as long as possible.

Today, I picked up two bottles of milk at the store.

Change.

What changed is that our knowledge of the situation improved. We now know how Covid is spread which allows us to take targeted steps to protect ourselves and our neighbors.

We should always been looking at a changing world and reevaluating our strategy and lifestyle, but many of us just coast, sometimes for years, not realizing that there might be a better way to do what we do.

2020 is an opportunity to reevaluate everything. It's all changing anyway. We might as well take advantage of it to make sure that when the dust settles, we're living our best lives.

I have a bad habit, and you might as well. Something will happen, and I'll get angry at the wrong thing.

You know what I mean. You bang your foot on the coffee table and you're angry at that stupid coffee table. "That coffee table shouldn't be there!" You cry.

This anger is instinctive, but you can train your reaction. I try to pause for a moment before lashing out to ask myself this anger is reasonable or silly. What would someone think if they saw me yell at or hit a coffee table?

Train yourself to pause a moment to ask yourself if you are the victim of your monkey brain or if your anger is really justified. Either way, calm down before you react.

Some people are really good at making it look like they have it figured out, but no one has really made it in the shade.

Social media shows us a highlight reel of the best of, so it's easy to look around and think that everyone has it together.

This is doubly true if you are sharing all your trials and tribulations, because other people will think you are more messed up than the rest of us. You're not, you're just being more honest about it.

The secret is that no one really has it figured out. No one. Why? Because when you start to master a challenge, life throws you a new challenge.

This is a good thing. When you stop having challenges, you get bored and die. My life is way better than it was 10 years ago, but there are just as many challenges. It's just that these are the challenges to get to level 25 instead of the ones to get to level 2.

Don't feel bad because it looks like others are doing better than you. Just focus on how you can do better.

As Bruce Lee said, “Do not pray for an easy life; pray for the strength to endure a difficult one.”

If you cannot take criticism, you will always be ignorant.

In this video, I speak of how I learned this lesson very painfully 13 years ago. I share so that you can learn from my mistakes rather than making it yourself.

We are born knowing nothing, fully ignorant, but as we grow, we fill that empty space. Some is filled with knowledge and some is filled with garbage.

If we are wise, we will recognize that everything we know has the potential to be garbage. Then we are open to reexamining everything we know.

How do we know what to reexamine? People will tell us. That's called criticism.

Some criticism is very valuable and gives us a chance to learn. Some criticism is... also garbage. But if you disregard all criticism as garbage, then you will never remove the garbage in your own brain.

If you write off anyone who disagrees with you as a hater or libtard or facist or moron, then you will never receive the criticism you need to replace your wrong information with right information.

Do not become so hung up on your disadvantages that you ignore your opportunities. I know quite a few successful women, successful people of color, successful people of all kinds.

I readily admit that there are benefits to being male, white, heterosexual, cisgendered, fluent in English, etc. I acknowledge the privileges that I have. On the macro level, there are inequalities and unfair situations in our nation which must be addressed and must be corrected.

At the individual level, however, I implore you not to allow perceptions of oppression and disadvantage to prevent you from seeking the opportunities in front of you. Find your individual strengths and advantages and deploy them to achieve success. Then use that success to push for the larger changes which you believe need to be made.
