It was 1979 and the graduating class of Kennedy High School in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, was approaching their last semester. 18 year old Michelle Martinko was fashionable this evening in December wearing a black dress, hose, and rabbit fur jacket. She had just celebrated at a choir banquet and decided to venture to the new mall in town that evening. After talking to some friends, Michelle walked the dark distance through the parking lot to her car. But someone was waiting inside.
