Wulugu Senior High School (SHS) in the West Mamprusi Municipality of the North East Region, has shut down over students riot. The action of the management of the school was to stop the destruction of the school properties by the rioting students. Students of the school, on Wednesday, went on a rampage and destroyed bungalows and other properties of the school.

Vice President of the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) Marketers Association, Gabby Kumi, has joined the call for the government to reconsider and, if possible, repeal LPG taxes.

Speaking with Jay Foley on Prime Morning, he explained that the restored Price Stabilisation and Recovery Levy (PSRL) and its attendant increase in the price of LPG will further decrease the commodity’s consumption rate and worsen the plight of the ordinary consumer.

The Minority in Parliament has served notice it will haul the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, before the House to present the government’s response plan to end the hikes in fuel prices. According to the Minority, the Finance Ministry has the authority to remove some taxes that contribute to the final ex-pump fuel prices.

The Dean of the University of Ghana’s Law Faculty, Professor Raymond Atuguba, has asked for the controversial Electronic Transaction Levy (E-levy) Bill to be passed. Although he described the tax policy with unprintable words, he noted that funds generated from the said levy will save the country from looming economic threats. “We need to pass the ‘damn farah f*%king’ [sic], E-levy Bill, immediately and implement it effectively,” the Professor stated.

Speaking at a labor conference on Monday, Mr. Baah, blamed the recent labor agitation in the country on weaknesses in the labor institutions. “The recent discrepancies we are witnessing at the labor front are a manifestation of economic hardship workers are going through. President Akufo-Addo has reaffirmed the commitment of the government to find a lasting solution to the prevailing strike action by the University Teachers’ Association of Ghana (UTAG).

A group of Ghanaian students who were living in Chernivtsi in Ukraine have been evacuated to Romania, following arrangements made by the Foreign Ministry. The students who arrived safely in the neighbouring country will be catered for by the Romanian government, a tweet by the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) on Saturday said.

The Foreign Minister, Shirley Ayokor Botchwey, has refuted claims that the government delayed its nationals’ evacuation from Ukraine. According to her, before the escalation of unrest in the Ukraine-Russia region, government had entreated Ghanaian students to return to Ghana.

The Speaker of Parliament made some stark projections for which public sector workers may have to brace themselves. According to Alban Bagbin, the government may struggle to honor some financial obligations including remuneration of employees in the next three months if critical steps are not taken.

As the war between Ukraine and Russia enters its fourth day, concerns are still rife about the stakes for civilians who have been caught in the crossfire. Though Russia insists that its attack are limited to military bases and installations, reports from Kyiv show that civilian casualties have not been left out of the fray as missiles have hit many areas aside from the stipulated targets.
