Transport operators say no matter the outcome of the meeting with the Transport Ministry they will maintain their decision to increase fares by 30%. The Concerned Drivers Association said they want to achieve what they are fighting for which is the 30 per cent increment in transport fare.

The students of the Savelugu Senior High School in the Northern Region on Sunday, February 20, protested the quality of meals offered them by the authorities. The riot began after they accused school authorities of feeding them with expired milk and tin fish. The students also said the meals offered are very small for young adults of their kind.

Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin has queried the recent mode of arrest of journalists allegedly involved in publication of falsehood by the Ghana Police Service. Terming the approach as “rambo style”, the Speaker said that such an approach is archaic, thus should not be encouraged.

Four members of Parliament (MPs) belonging to the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) have tabled a motion for Parliament to establish a bipartisan committee probe into the death of former President John Evans Atta Mills. The sponsors of the private members’ motion are Frank Annoh-Dompreh, Majority Chief Whip and MP for Nsawam-Adoagyiri; Habib Iddrissu, Second Deputy Majority Whip and MP for Tolon; Davis Ansah Opoku, MP for Mpraeso; and Yves Nii Noi Hanson-Nortey, MP for Tema Central.

Beneficiaries of government’s Nation Builders Corps (NABCo) program are set to hit the streets today in protest of what they call an undue delay in the payment of their allowances. An extension of their service period by government has not been followed with the necessary financial commitment as many of them are yet to be paid in the past six months.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Blood Service, Dr. Justina Ansah, has advised the general public to demand receipts for services rendered to them at the National Blood Bank. She believes this will significantly reduce the rate of extortion at the facility.

A Cape Coast High Court has slapped the Ghana Police Service with a ¢320,000 fine for the negligence of its officers over the shooting of three persons in a taxi cab. The officers who were pursuing goat thieves from Twifo Praso fired into the thieves’ car.

One person has been confirmed dead in the clash between the police and the youth of Lamashegu. Another seven persons have sustained various degrees of injury during the riot. The disturbance is reported to have erupted when a young man who was being pursued by the police dashed into the Lamashe-Naa’s palace to avoid being apprehended by security personnel.
