On this episode, we compare modern political life to Ancient Rome and look at Donald Trump's complicated relationship with the Middle East.
Life in Ancient Rome was far from perfect, just like life today. However, much of our modern way of life--in America particular--is borrowed from Rome, from our architecture and government to our very concepts of "the romantic ideal." What can we improve today from our knowledge of antiquity?
Getting to news, we look at how all hell broke loose on the floor of the North Carolina Legislature on 9/11, as well as how the New York Times failed in reporting the latest allegations against Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.
Then later in the program, we look at Donald Trump's complicated relationship with the Middle East, and why many critics are asking whether Trump is too strongly influenced by our Saudi allies. The criticisms, which have increased since the killing of journalist Jamal Kashoggi, have recently mounted as tensions between Saudi Arabia and Iran appear to have resulted in an attack on a Saudi oil field. Finally, we also look at why the Justice Department is invoking the states secrets privilege in order to provide limited information about possible Saudi involvement in the 9/11 terror attacks.

This week, on the eighteenth anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, we look at the divided attitudes in our country, and the notion that Democracy in America is failing.
On this anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, we lead off with word from Washington, where Donald Trump spoke this morning on the anniversary of the worst attack on U.S. soil since Pearl Harbor. Also in the news, the high-profile departure of John Bolton from the Trump Administration not only had an effect on tensions pertaining to conflict with Iran, but also oil prices, which reportedly dropped after Bolton's departure. But did he quit, or was he fired?
We also touch on the bizarre incident that occurred during a climate channel panel that occurred during a Democratic debate, where Joe Biden's left eye began to bleed on live television. This incident raised the obvious questions about the potential candidate's health, much as we've seen in past years.
Then getting to the heart of the discussion, we reflect on how, in the wake of a tragic attack like the 9/11 attacks, Americans became more united than they had since World War II. Part of the tragedy is that it requires the loss of life on such a scale to inspire unity... and many argue that things are more divided today than at any time in the New Millennium. On that note, we also touch on the controversial views of a political science professor who says that we, as humans, aren't really equipped to be able to maintain Democracy... could it actually fail?

On this edition of the program, we look at how words are being weaponized in American political debate, and the ever-evolving definitions of "domestic terrorism."
As the concern over "fake news" continues in advance of the 2020 election, the U.S. military is now getting involved, enlisting the aid of DARPA to battle memes and disinformation. Do we really need the military to help us fight the pervasive threat of... memes?
Then later in the program, we turn our attention to the recent West Texas shooting, and the notable decision by law enforcement not to release the name of the shooter. However, looking more broadly at the weaponization of language in American politics, we examine the recent decision by a group of California lawmakers to brand the NRA as a "domestic terrorist organization." Along the same lines as concerns we raised about Donald Trump arguing along the same lines with relation to ANTIFA, we express concern about a group of California lawmakers "unanimously" passing a resolution that effectively brands millions of Americans as "terrorists."
However, in the broader debate about the weaponization of words, particularly in relation to the idea of "domestic terrorism," we attempt to look at a set of balanced perspectives from legal scholars and other sources, who clearly outline the problems posed by such language in American politics today, rather than adding rhetoric to the already politically divisive language we're seeing these days.

On this edition of the program, we look at what ratings tell us about who Americans are paying attention to in the media, and how controversial reporting along partisan lines keeps us divided, and may mislead the public.
With Hurricane Dorian on its way toward the Carolinas, we lead off with news of a bizarre stabbing at a California correctional facility, involving Sirhan Sirhan, the man serving a life prison for the assassination of Bobby Kennedy. In other news, Trump recently Tweeted what many experts are saying may have been a screenshot he was shown of an Iranian launch site during an intelligence briefing.
Later in the program, we also look at Lawrence O'Donnell's claims about connections between Donald Trump loans held by Deutsche Bank and Russian Oligarchs. Then, looking at a Mediaite report pertaining to television ratings, we see that Fox News hosts are continuing to hold their ground in the latest rating sweeps. This, even despite controversial statements made by Tucker Carlson, who dismissed concerns about White Nationalism as a "hoax" similar to that of Russia.
While we disagree with Tucker's position, we also note the fact that both sides of the American media report on such issues with their own biases, which are often equally skewed and misinformed. We look at what Americans may really think about media personalities, and the variety of reasons that might account for the popularity of many Fox News hosts, and conservative media in general.

This week we look at how the tech industry is reshaping the military-industrial complex, Jeffrey Epstein's bizarre transhumanist beliefs, and the recent riots in Hong Kong which China has compared to "terrorism."
"In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex." Thus were the famous words of former U.S. President Dwight Eisenhower, who warned about such cozying-up of industries to the military and other government institutions. Hence, should we be concerned about Silicon Valley's recent deals with the DOD, amounting to a $10 billion dollar contract that may be awarded to Jeff Bezos and Amazon?
Elsewhere, we look at the "serious irregularities" that were occurring at the New York correctional facility where sex offender Jeffrey Epstein recently committed suicide. As questions continue to be asked about his death, new information about Epstein's bizarre transhumanist beliefs has emerged, which includes his aspirations to use his DNA to "seed" future generations of humanity, with the help of high-profile members of the scientific community.
Then turning our attention toward matters a bit further away, the recent riots underway in Hong Kong have resulted in political and economic turmoil, as well as allegations from mainland China that have likened the activities of some of the protestors to "terrorism." We look at all of this, as well as similar comparisons being made between American protest groups and the action of terrorists, on this week's podcast.

This week, we look at claims that sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein was "suicided", or killed, in other words, in a way to make his death appear to be a suicide.
This week, in light of the news about "apparent" reports of the billionaire sicko and sex offender Jeffery Epstein's "presumed" death by "apparent" suicide, we lead off by revisiting an FBI bulletin that raises concerns about what happens when the public believes in conspiracies... which is what everyone seemed to have leaped on with news of Epstein's death.
But first, we recap President Trump's recent statements following a string of mass shootings last week, and why the New York Times' coverage of the teleprompted appearance had people screaming "cancel my subscription." We also take a look at the disturbing details behind the Dayton, Ohio shooter's unhealthy attitudes toward women, despite apparently having touted "far-left" ideologies some have likened to those of the ANTIFA movement.
Finally, we take an in-depth look at Jeffrey Epstein's death, and why many politicians and pundits were crying "conspiracy," raising questions over whether the billionaire sex trafficker and sicko was actually "suicided." (For those who aren't aware, "Suicided" is defined by the ever-erudite Urban Dictionary as "when someone is murdered and then arranged in such a way to make the death seem like a suicide. The victim may also be forced to take his own life so that the real culprit leaves little to no evidence of wrongdoing.")
However, what if Epstein's death were the biggest red herring of them all? By that, we mean that what if there are other facts being reported which are being buried in light of the news of the sex trafficker's death... which might include connections to Saudi Arabia, and even claims Epstein made since the 1980s that he was, in fact, a financial "hitman" who worked for the wealthy elite--and even a few governments--to reclaim lost or stolen money? Whether or not his claims were true, Feds who raided his home after his arrest discovered something very unusual in a locked safe, which may lend further support to who Epstein really was, and why Alexander Acosta said he "belonged to intelligence."

This week we look at the tragic shootings in El Paso, Ohio, and California, along with analysis and reports that began to emerge online in their aftermath.
This week, we take a look at the second round of Democratic debates, and how CNN's moderators appeared to be attempting to get the candidates to fight, rather than engage in substantive debate. Some were likening the debates to "WrestleMania" (we preferred to compare them to MMA), while others noted that there simply too many people on the stage to be able to make any significant headway... which does nobody any good.
Then later in the program, we look at the recent shooting events in El Paso, Texas, as well as Dayton, Ohio and California. In the Texas shooting, the alleged shooter posted a "Manifesto" online, which we analyze and break down in terms of the shooter's objectives, as well as his horribly contradictory and wrong interpretation of history. We then turn our attention toward claims from conspiracy circles, which involve the so-called "Q Anon" theories and inevitable claims of "false flags." Belief in such things is a bad idea... and in addition to explaining why, we ask some hard questions which conspiracy theorists might do well to ask too, in relation to the idea that Q Anon has foreknowledge of "plots" that include such tragic shootings.

This week we analyze Robert Mueller’s “historic testimony” before Congress… which despite the continued partisan debate, turned out to be anti-climactic at best.
Is there such a thing as a universal truth? The question has been debated for centuries by philosophers… but what happens when people don’t actually want the truth? Arguably, most people would prefer to have a version of the truth that brings them comfort, rather than to actually know the “real” truth. With all of this in mind, we dig into hot topics this week, which range from Congress condemning recent “racist” statements by Donald Trump, to updates on a mysterious “emergency” reported by Vice President Mike Pence’s staff in recent weeks.
Then turning our attention to Robert Mueller’s long-awaited testimony before Congress, we look at how much has been taken by the punditry from what very, very little was actually said by the former Special Counsel during hours of testimony, which could be summarized succinctly as follows: can you repeat the question? We look at Mueller’s strategy, and how much really can be read “between the lines” from the few, mostly one-liners Mueller had to offer.

This week we examine information about the ongoing Jeffery Epstein scandal, which includes disturbing allegations about the Carribean island he owned, and his possible ties to intelligence agencies.
On this edition of Middle Theory, we lead off with an update on the mysterious “Shadow Brokers,” who began auctioning off stolen NSA technologies now used by hackers to hold hospitals, and even cities and local governments hostage with ransomware attacks. Has someone associated with the leak of this material been prosecuted?
We also touch on a new Yahoo News report that discovered links between the murder of Democratic staffer Seth Rich and a Russian propaganda effort, in addition to the ongoing saga of “Havana Syndrome,” and how some medical professionals refuse o acknowledge that the illness is, in fact, more than mere mass hysteria.
While the high-profile arrest of wealthy financier and sex offender Jeffery Epstein has been making the news the last few days, it’s baffling how many media outlets are skewing certain facts and information. We compare and contrast preferential treatment of some of the key players and connections by various factions in the media, before zeroing in on the most bizarre allegation about the sicko that you’ve never heard: that he “belongs to intelligence,” as allegedly stated by the former US Attorney and current Labor Secretary Alex Acosta. Additional disturbing details also recently emerged in an AP report about a Carribean island Epstein owns, which had a dark reputation among locals at nearby Saint Thomas. Is it really possible that there is more to the Epstein story than anyone may have previously been aware?

This week on Middle Theory, we look at the recent Democratic Debates, and the distractions in America that are taking away from more substantive discussion and debate.
Stop the presses… hold the phone… Nike has pulled a new sneaker design that would have featured the 13-star “Betsy Ross U.S. Flag”, after former NFL Quarterback Colin Kaepernick said he, and other NFL players, were offended by the flag since its adoption (and appropriation) by extremist groups.
Well… now that we’ve covered “Topic A,” we move on to more important issues, which include the recent round of Democratic Debates, in which a few surprises, and a fair amount of contention emerged… which has shifted expectaions as we head into the Iowa Caucuses. However, there was one politician who participated in the debates that stood out among the rest, and who the mainstream media simply won’t touch… all we can say is that, since the debates, she’s had us singing “Take Me Back to Tulsi.”
