  • 10.12.16. Donald Trump: Meltdown

This week on Middle Theory, we showcase the scandal that has erupted following the release of inflammatory taped remarks by GOP candidate Donald Trump.

As we kick things off this week, we take a moment to highlight Bell Pottinger, a company in the spotlight for creating propaganda videos for US in Iraq. Then we turn our attention to the WikiLeaks "October Surprise" (or lack thereof), highlighting Vanity Fair's Six Most Explosive Things the latest email leaks have taught us. Clinton campaign manager John Podesta has spoken out about his involvement in the leaked emails, decrying Russian hackers and ‘phoney emails’ appearing in the leaks. The emails also show that Podesta corresponded with and met Delonge of Blink 182, to talk about aliens. Is there a deeper reason this should be of interest?

After hours of prayer (and several glasses of hard liquor), Ted Cruz decided to make an ill-timed endorsement of Donald Trump, just hours before audio of Trump recorded having an extremely lewd conversation about women in 2005 surfaced; over the course of the days that followed, similar remarks from Trump on the Howard Stern Show, discussing his daughter and Miss Universe “walk ins”, cast the GOP candidate in a negative light. A former Miss Arizona, Tasha Dixon, says Trump 'just came strolling right in' on naked contestants, and the latest bombshell in the unfolding mess claim Trump may have used “THE N WORD” among other offensive terms, on the set of "The Apprentice". Democrats are purportedly offering millions for leaked audio of these statements, or even transcripts that may confirm this, while independent groups seek funding for the $5 million legal penalty that would result from the release of any such audio.

  • 10.03.16. Gary Johnson: High Times, and Low Points

This week on Middle Theory, Micah travels to join Chris in Connecticut for a podcast in-studio, with a special segment highlighting the strengths and weaknesses of Libertarian Party candidate Gary Johnson.
After several weeks of travel through the jungles of Belize and the Yucatan, Micah rounds out his travels with a brief jaunt to the Northeast, where he makes a surprise stop at the Connecticut Command of Mr. McNonymous in the hills of Newtown. While there, Chris and Micah visited the location of the new Sandy Hook Elementary School, prompting a brief discussion about our interactions with people in the community today that were (and continue to be) affected by the tragedy that occurred there.
Moving along to politics, we examine the recent preoccupation the American media has had with what time Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton decide to publish their Tweets, which even made its way into a recent (and very hilarious) Saturday Night Live skit where Alec Baldwin may have given us the very best Donald Trump impression to-date. All jokes aside, we also analyze some of the lesser-discussed policies discussed by the candidates: Hillary Clinton’s plans for instating public service in exchange for student debt loan leniency, and Donald Trump’s plans for reforming health care for veterans.
With all the discussion of Trump and Clinton here in the “final stretch” leading up to the November election, we decided it was “high” time to turn our attention toward Libertarian Presidential Candidate and long-time marijuana apologist Gary Johnson, whose recent gaffes have led to serious questions about his knowledge of foreign affairs. Would Johnson’s political experience as a former governor be enough to offset his apparent inability to name foreign leaders, in the minds of American voters?

  • 09.28.16. Bring in the Clowns: 2016 Presidential Debates, Round One

This week on Middle Theory, Micah and Matt Oakley give an analysis of the first Presidential debates between Clinton and Trump, and break down the truths and falsehoods in each candidate's rhetoric.

As Micah returns from seven days on the High Seas, we find ourselves regrouping in the aftermath of numerous shootings, stabbings, bombings, and other incidents on the U.S. mainland. We analyze each incident, while paying special attention to the incident involving the shooting death of an African American man in Charlotte, North Carolina, which has fomented riots and protests for days now. How much of the "rest of the story" is being reported by the media? We also spend time talking about Ted Cruz's recent "endorsement" of Donald Trump, and various economic issues in America today.

Shifting our attention to the first Clinton and Trump debate, we analyze controversies pertaining to whether Trump supported the War in Iraq, Clinton's statements on guns in relation to deaths of young African American men, and a host of other points addressed by the candidates.

Finally, what does the current U.S. election have to do with recurring sightings of "creepy clowns" in several states? Probably nothing... but it makes for a great opportunity to highlight the strangely "clownish" nature of both the candidates, which garners an entirely new set of nicknames:

    Ronald McDonald Trump

    Hillary Clownton

  • 09.11.16. The Cleveland Clinton Cough Conspiracy

This week on Middle Theory, we examine whether the "conspiracy theories" about Hillary Clinton's health may be more warranted than previously thought.

In the wake of news that North Korea purportedly detonated a suspected hydrogen weapon, elsewhere in the world Venezuelans are turning to black magic after medicine runs out in their faltering economic state. Also in the department of news less-often reported, Wikileaks excluded an email recently, showing transfer of money from Syria to Russia... and may have threatened retribution against Daily Dot for reporting it

Arguably, the big story in the news this week has been Hillary’s coughing fits interrupt “press conferences”, and more importantly, the fact that Clinton not feeling well caused her to leave a 9/11 event early. Her doctor later issued a statement that Clinton is suffering from "walking pneumonia", but does this explain the incidents, or merely bolster previous claims about Clinton's strange "coughing spells", and other questions about her health?

Finally, with fifteen years since the September 11, 2001 terror attacks, families still face a 'Strange, Empty Void' without victims' remains.

  • 09.06.16. Why is Hillary Clinton Hiding?

This week on Middle Theory, we look at the controversies surrounding Democratic Presidential Candidate Hillary Clinton's unwillingness to hold press conferences, and why this is an issue for this election.

As Micah and Chris take to the airwaves, news of "creepy clowns" seen in the Carolinas are causing concerns among law enforcement agencies... elsewhere, unrest has erupted in Hong Kong following local elections that have some asking, is China next up for a "Brexit"? Also, scandals emerge in the world of soccer, as long-held homophobic trends rear their ugly heads again. And what lays in the future for Uzbekistan, whose president (known for supposedly boiling captured political enemies to death) has died?

Getting to the heart of things happening in the news, we turn our attention to the controversies surrounding Democratic Presidential Candidate Hillary Clinton, and why she seems so intent on evading the press. With one candidate that likes playing "hide and seek" with the media, and another who is more afraid of the debate moderators than his own political opponent, such oddities only present further evidence for this being the strangest election in recent memory.

  • 8.29.16. Trump on Immigration: Great Walls of Fire!

This week on Middle Theory, we examine Donald Trump's immigration platform, or lack thereof, and other controversies related to Trump's policies.

On this edition of Middle Theory, Micah is joined by Matt "The Reverend" Oakley filling in for McNonymous, as we examine news pertaining to French police making woman remove clothing on a Nice beach following a controversial "burkini ban".

Also, a new Sundance acclaimed documentary shows Anthony Weiner collapsing in on himself during his campaign for NYC mayor, which nearly coincides with news that Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin says she is leaving husband Anthony Weiner after the latest sexting revelation.

Finally, we spend a lengthy segment examining Donald Trump's immigration policies, which include his personal gaffes, as well as Mike Pence's defense of claims that Trump has flip-flopped on such issues, despite how Trump's current immigration policy deports a laughably low number of Illegal Immigrants... er, undocumented workers. Also, new allegations that Trump was sued for housing discrimination against blacks in the 1970s, by using a “secret code” have emerged... how does this paint the candidate?

  • 08.21.16. The Trump-Clinton Connection

Is there really a deeper connection between Donald Trump and the Clintons than has been reported during this election season? We examine this latest "conspiracy theory" on this week's edition of the Middle Theory podcast.

This week, in addition to raising our ceremonial societal glasses to the fine folks at Sierra Nevada Brewing Company, the first American craft brewery to enter the billionaire club, we look at the latest round of theories about "mysterious deaths" linked to the DNC, as well as the death of not one, but two of Julian Assange's lawyers, which a number of media outlets recently reported. There's just one problem though... the stories are several months old, pre-dating Assange's latest media attention by several weeks. Are they just late to the game, or are these outlets merely peddling old news that is bound to get attention because of its apparent relevance?

In other "conspiracy" news, many have suggested that Donald Trump could be a "stooge" for the Clintons, who entered this race to intentionally try and thwart any contest to Hillary Clinton's presidency. How likely is this, especially when others (including Michael Moore) have taken very different approaches to understanding Trump's faltering campaign, and what his real aims and objectives may be?

While such conspiracies are being tossed out left and right (both politically, and in the more literal sense), we think otherwise... in fact, we even suspect that there is actually more to Trump's recent "campaign shakeup", which put Breitbart chief Steve Bannon in charge of Trump's campaign. Is this really so much a "shakeup" as it is the beginning of something much bigger... with longer lasting implications beyond the 2016 election?

Also, what is to be made--if anything--of the questions being raised about Clinton's health? Does this have anything to do with why she hasn't held press conferences in several months... making her the only candidate not to do so by late August in the last 44 years? Once again, we suggest an alternative hypothesis, which we think is not only more likely, but which underscores the way the Clinton campaign is continually being propped-up to highlight her strengths, and conceal her weaknesses as much as possible.

  • 08.12.16. Third Party Candidates, Ripe For the Picking?

This week on Middle Theory, after analysis of the Clinton and Trump campaigns in recent weeks, we turn our attention to the third party candidates, their platforms, and whether they may join the debate stage leading up to November's election.

Following up on last week's discussion of Olympics controversies, a Daily Beast writer decided to out a number of gay athletes in Rio in an op ed, which led to the removal of the article from the site, and an apology. Elsewhere, a Florida police officer involved in an accidental shooting had a sketchy past, and as the "Summer of Zika" continues on, 10 cases of Zika virus were recenty reported in San Francisco. Is it time to start worrying?

Returning to the never-ending DNC email hack scandal, Clinton responded to allegations that DNC Emails prove attempts to undermine Sanders, a pice of audio that we here at Middle Theory decided to have a bit of fun with... elsewhere, Clinton releases her 2015 tax return, and prods Trump to do the same, while her returns show a combined $10.6 million income she and her husband netted last year. Also, controversy strikes as Bernie Sanders buys a $575,000 vacation home, and the Internet cries hypocrisy. But what is perhaps most interesting of all is a recent Rasmussen Poll, which revealed people's preference that Trump should release tax records, and that Hillary should release her health records, too.

During this election, it's been no secret that National Review has been no fan of Donald Trump. However, their recent article, 'Here's One Interesting Case for Gary Johnson', makes an unusual case for conservatives who can't stand the idea of voting for Clinton either. Which begs the question, will Libertarian Gary Johnson claim a prime time spot in the debates? The Chicago Tribune seems to like the idea.

However, a judge has recently dismissed a debate lawsuit filed by Gary Johnson and Jill Stein, with hope of achieving this. Meanwhile, as Newsweek tells us about Dr. Jill Stein's 'Stiff Dose of Progressive Medicine',

  • 08.07.16. Rumble in Rio: Olympics 2016

This week on Middle Theory, we present our denizens of The World's Most Secret Society a brief repast from election coverage this week, as we analyze the launch of the 2016 Olympics in Rio.

Kicking off with some news, we've been following the story of an attack that left one dead and five injured in central London. The attacker was wielding a knife, but was the attack driven by terror or, mental health issues? We also get an update on a North Miami Police Commander who won’t face charges in a therapist’s erroneous shooting. Elsewhere, we examine a video showing a police officer “violently” arresting woman who called 911, out of fear of the officer. Finally, how do fatal police shootings actually highlight inconsistent Body Cam usage?

Next, we look at the remarkably downplayed controversy involving the Lafarge company, and its possible links to ISIS funding. However, there are other problems at play here, notably that:

    * Hillary served on board of directors
    * Hillary served as legal counsel
    * The company still regularly, to this day, donates to Clinton Foundation
    * Lafarge is also a sponsor of, and providing material to an artificial beach in Paris
    * Paris has been attacked multiple times now by ISIS/jihadists
    * The company is linked to CIA in arms an alleged arms-running deal with Saddam Hussein

In other news involving DNC conspiracies, a DNC Lawsuit process server Shawn Lucas has died, under what some call mysterious circumstances. The same week, a prominent Clinton researcher and writer for American Free Press, was found dead, of a gunshot wound in an apparent suicide. And, as the controversy surrounding the DNC ensues, Julian Assange’s recent appearance on Real Time with Bill Maher caught our eye with a bit of "audio gold" to lighten things up... well, sort of.

Finally, our analysis of the 2016 Rio Olympics sees world media praising the Rio Olympics opening ceremony, and its environmental message, despite the fact that economists question the wisdom of hosting Olympics there in the first place. There have already been questionable incidents, including the

  • 07.31.16. DNC 2016: Turmoil, and Triumph for Hillary

Rounding out our 2016 Convention coverage on Middle Theory, this week we once again present a special, extended edition of the show with in-depth coverage and analysis of the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia.

Things were off to an awkward start for day one of the convention, which coincided with the release of a series of controversial leaked emails by the Wikileaks group. These emails showed, among other things, that the Democratic Party had shown favoritism to the Clinton campaign, including plots to misrepresent Bernie to various portions of the voting public. While DNC staffers speculated that this had been a Russian job, possibly supported (or even assisted) by Donald Trump, Julian Assange of Wikileaks discusses his foundation's policies about never exposing their sources, and further suggests that the source of the email leak could have been "any DNC staffer."

At the end of DNC Day One, McNonymous posted the following question online: "Now that DNC: Episode I, The Capitulation of Bernie is in the books, the important question to be asked is: Who raided the University of Smarmy Used Salesmen best? The DNC or the RNC?" However, the "headliner" of that first day had arguably been one of the more conscientious politicians in this election, Bernie Sanders. Emotions were riding as Sanders urged his supporters to put their energy behind Hillary Clinton, rather than protesting the results of the Wikileaks email disclosure.

We also revisit highlights from other key DNC speakers that include former president Bill Clinton, and current POTUS Barack Obama. Finally, we give a complete breakdown of Clinton's nomination acceptance speech, and the various high points, themes, and even the symbolism and undercurrents present therein.
