This week, Facebook is in the hot seat following a bombshell 60 Minutes segment with whistleblower Frances Haugen, who alleges the tech giant employs polarization for profit.
This week, as renewed scrutiny is placed on many world leaders following a document dump exposing their ties to secret wealth, the Supreme Court is beginning what is likely to be one of its most contentious terms in recent memory, where abortion, guns, and the question of race in relation to school admissions are among the issues they are faced with addressing. However, the big story this week involves Frances Haugen, a former Facebook employee who has come forward saying the company consistently chooses profit over its responsibilities mitigating the spread of concerning content across its platform. Did the interview have anything to do with a six-hour blackout on Monday that affected several of the company's online properties? We dig into all of this in this week's edition of Middle Theory.

This week, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley is the center of attention as Senate Hearings examine the chaotic withdrawal of the U.S. from Afghanistan and Milley's calls to China during the Trump Administration.
Fresh back from several weeks in Brazil, this week we lead off with an analysis of why Brazilian supporters of Jair Bolsanaro are donning American flags while calling for a military takeover. Elsewhere, political shifts are occurring in Germany, and recent FBI data is reporting an unusual spike in murders in 2020.
However, our main focus this week has to do with Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley, who in the final days of Donald Trump's presidency made calls to China's military leaders to assure them the United States did not plan to attack them... and now some Republican leaders are calling for his resignation. We examine all of these stories, and several others in this week's episode of Middle Theory.

In this episode, we examine "the Kennedy legacy," and news related to ongoing developments with this iconic American family.
The Kennedy family remains one of the most iconic American families and political institutions in all of history. Since the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy and, thereafter, his brother and former Attorney General Robert Kennedy, intrigue has surrounded these families and their influence on American politics, society, and culture. A number of questions also linger about the deaths of these two political icons, with developments in this ongoing American saga still occurring in the present day. We examine the legacy of the Kennedys this week, on this special edition of Middle Theory.

In this special edition, we analyze a recent government report that looks at the theories of origin behind the emergence of COVID-19 in late 2019.
In 2019, the world as we know it changed drastically with the emergence of the novel coronavirus, resulting in a global pandemic and one of the greatest health crises in living memory. Despite the scale of its influence, much of our understanding of the origins of the coronavirus remains a mystery, and questions linger over how COVID-19 actually began to spread among human populations. In this Middle Theory special, we look at the theories behind the origin of COVID-19, and present an analysis of a recent government report that looks at these and other questions about the pandemic.

As the withdrawal of U.S. Troops from Afghanistan concludes, questions linger for Americans still in the country, and how long efforts to retrieve them may continue beyond the August deadlines.
This week, abortion is back on the table as the Supreme court has decided to allow a controversial Texas ban on abortions to take effect. We look at this, as well as COVID-19 updates before shifting our attention to the completion of the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan. As the late August deadlines arrive, how close is the United States to really being out of the country, and who has been left behind in the aftermath of the chaotic withdrawal? We examine all of these issues in this week's episode of Middle Theory.
