Midnight Looms

One of Toronto's busiest and most passionate DJ's, ME TIME, sets up inside our Playdead Cult DIY concert space, to drop our first In-Studio DJ session.

Me Time is a promoter, researcher, educator and activist. All of her various projects revolve around the idea of creating safer and more inclusive dancefloors. Everyone talks about safety and inclusion, but Me Time is putting words into practice in ways that are real and profound. She's also just a killer DJ and she absolutely loves music, so we give her most of the show, which concludes with a segment we call THE BRIDE.

Our host, GOBS, kicks off this journey-by-DJ with a short set of selections that are all brand new, and made by fantastic Canadian artists, including this month's SYN (Song You Need).

There's a blossoming mutant vehicle scene in Ontario, that began with a giant metal dragon called Heavy Meta, and one of the people that helped create that dragon, then branched off and designed her own art car, which resembles a jakalope, with flaming antlers and a flaming heart. The car is named Tarna and its co-creator is Jordan St Claire, who has selected a list of tunes, each one representing a different moment or place in the creation of the giant flaming jakalope art car that is Tarna.

Our host, GOBS, compliments Mz. St. Claire's amazing selections and road stories with a musical party-platter of Avant-Garde Disco, banging' Bass House, Nu Jazz, Boom Bap Hip Hop and a bunch of surprises, including purr first $50 QUESTION and a segments we call… TWINS.

Our host, GOBS, drops some Indie selections before one of the world's best DJ duos take over the flow. Mike and Pete are SMALLTOWN DJs. Global ambassadors for their home city, Calgary, which is where you'll find their world-famous night life spot, The Hi-Fi club. We caught up with Smalltown DJs during their recent appearance at Metaverse, in Toronto, which was bonkers. In this episode, you'll hear selections from their set along with our conversation.

This week's show also contains our first "X-Tend-A-Mix" segment in the form of a gorgeous jazz piece by Toronto trio, LOCAL TALENT, plus this month's SYN (Song You Need), and a nod to the gods of music. This time around, it's SOUNDGARDEN. We are not worthy!

Our first studio session!

We couldn't have found a more perfect band to christen our Playdead Cult DIY concert space.

THE ANTI-QUEENS are 4 punk rock ladies from Toronto known for their rowdy energy. They perform songs from their recently released, self-titled album live for a room full of their friends and fans. It gets WILD.

Our host, GOBS, matches the energy of the band by bringing a "dirty rock 'n roll party" vibe through a selection of tunes heavy with fresh Indie, punk classics, and 90s grunge, before ending off with a few electronic dance bangers to prepare you for next week's episode with world-renowned duo, SMALLTOWN DJs.
