The specific goal of this class is to equip teachers with a skeleton knowledge of the progression of Roman history and its role in the formation of western civilization. A broader goal for this class is to use it as a model for teaching history in general and motivating students to engage productively with the past.

Phonics Foundations is a new course by Christian Light for students who struggle with reading and spelling, especially students with dyslexia. We will attempt to explain the need, introduce the course, show how PF works, and answer your questions.

How can I capture and keep the attention of my students? How can I compellingly present ideas in a way that ignites mental light bulbs or slips past defenses to sink deep into a heart? The goal of this workshop is to equip you with practical tools for effectively communicating in discussions, lectures, and personal conversations.

Novice Teacher Track: Why are successful teachers successful? Whether they have read these principles of the art of teaching or not, practical that you can use what you learn here on your first day of school.

Our job is not only to teach how to label and diagram the English language, but also to bring the words to life. Let’s discuss the joys of the English language. Bring ideas of how you inspire your students.

Elementary students can really struggle with their English assignments. From total confusion about parts of speech, to failing spelling tests, they easily write off English class as impossible. We will look at some ways to organize the many components of English and help them succeed.

Language is not boring. Come to watch a class being taught to 1st graders followed by a group discussion of tips and tricks that work for you.

How should literature classes be conducted? What should a teacher do, and how should they do it? What are we trying to do in the first place? What techniques will maximize student learning and give them the best experience? How do I know if I am giving too much help, or not enough? What components contribute to effective teaching?

Students get daily lessons on the mechanics of language, but how regularly do they actually use language in writing? This class will include several interactive mini writing classes and suggestions for ways to make writing happen. Feel free to bring your ideas and questions for discussion.
