Novice Teacher Track: How can I "catch" my students attention? What do I do once they are "on the hook"? What is the purpose of presentation?

The teacher is a leader, but he must first be led if he is to be effective in commanding his classroom. This class will discuss traits of the follower that lay the foundation for effective leadership.

In his book The Seven Laws of Teaching, John Milton Gregory writes, "Good order is a condition precedent to good teaching." In this workshop, we plan to explore classroom management ideas and procedures that promote an orderly environment where children and teacher can focus and thrive.

This topic will attempt to look at things from a parent, school board and principal/administrator perspective. Each group has things (needs) they are looking for even if they don't come right out and say it! It will be geared toward teachers wanting to understand more fully what parents are wanting from their service as teachers as well as things for board members to consider when hiring teachers.

Every teacher is expected to manage a classroom; however, there are so many factors that are very hard or impossible to control. We will break classroom management down to some foundational points, as well as give some practical tips to “get it all done in a day.

Novice Teacher Track: What is the difference between a procedure and a rule? How do procedures help me have a disciplined classroom? What are procedures that can help me teach in a multi-grade classroom? Come to this workshop that helps us understand how procedures are foundational to learning.

This workshop will be a simulation of what a literature class is like. The poem “A Tuft of Flowers” will be studied in a typical literature class format. Attendees will be expected to play the role of student, sharing their thoughts and answering questions about the poem. The objectives for this class are to benefit from the student experience while gaining some take-aways for conducting your own literature classes.

Let’s talk about practical math application, math fun, and tricks and tips. But the important part of this class is your questions and ideas.

What are some basics my students ‘must know’? How do I teach a difficult concept where everyone understands? How much review should be done in class?

In this workshop we will be focusing on tips and techniques to help elementary students with all things Math. How do I as a teacher prepare for my class? What are some good ways to drill and review? What are good things to have to help my students comprehend Math?
