This week's Stang Gang Podcast features the latest news surrounding Midwestern State Volleyball with head coach Stephanie Radecki.
Midwestern State saw tremendous improvement this past season under the direction of third-year head coach Stephanie Radecki. The Mustangs finished the campaign with a 15-14 overall record. It was the first full season in which the Mustangs finished with a winning record since 2013. MSU also had its most wins since the 2017 season. With a 7-9 record in the conference, the Mustangs had their best winning percentage in a full LSC campaign since 2013. MSU also had four players recognized for postseason honors. Sophomore middle hitter Isabella Dickens and senior outside hitter Riley Rabedeaux earned honorable mention on the Lone Star Conference Volleyball All-Conference Team, while senior defensive specialist Amy DeWalt and junior right-side hitter Arrianna Fields were selected to the 2024 LSC Volleyball All-Academic Team.

Midwestern State has reeled off five consecutive wins and earned the No. 2 seed in Super Region 4 for the 2024 NCAA Division II Men’s Soccer Championship. The Mustangs earned a bye and will face the winner of Cal Poly Pomona vs. Westmont, who will play at Stang Park on Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. The winner meets MSU at 3 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. Midwestern State is making its 11th consecutive NCAA postseason appearance and 19th overall. The Mustangs boast 36 total playoff appearances including 17 as an NAIA member. Head coach Michael Meachum now has 102 victories in 135 matches at MSU. Meachum has a winning percentage of .800 after winning the LSC Postseason Tournament for the fourth consecutive season, defeating the LSC regular season champion — St. Mary’s — for the third time this season. The Stangs rallied past the Rattlers for a 2-1 victory in the championship match at Sigma Beta Chi Field in San Antonio on Sunday afternoon.

The Mustangs made their third consecutive appearance in the semifinals of the Lone Star Conference Women’s Soccer Championship but fell to Angelo State, 2-0. Junior defender Mable Pruter picked up a red card in the match and is ineligible for the first-round of the NCAA Tournament. Midwestern State is facing the Mavericks for the first time since a 3-0 victory at Stang Park in 2015.

Carter was a rebound shy of her fourth straight double-double in the loss to UCO but was named the LSC Defensive Player of the Week. MSU welcomes Oklahoma Baptist to D.L. Ligon Coliseum on Thursday night at 5:30 p.m. and opens conference play at Lubbock Christian on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.

Shepherd also pulled down eight rebounds in the victory. Colorado State-Pueblo defeated MSU in the second game of the season-opening road trip, 80-60, despite Mason Gibson scoring 23 points as the Thunderwolves hit 13-of-26 3-point shots in the victory. The home opener is Friday at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. Western Colorado visits the Mustangs, and tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
