Midwestern State played its final road game of the season at West Texas A&M and fell short against the Buffaloes in a 17-12 contest at Buffalo Stadium. The Mustangs have lost their last six trips to Canyon and fell to 3-7 for the season, and they are 2-6 in the Lone Star Conference this season. MSU hosts Western New Mexico on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. for Military Appreciation and Senior Day at Memorial Stadium. The Stangs are hoping to stop a four-game slide and keep the Western Mustangs winless in conference play this season. WNMU has a seven-game losing streak and is 2-8 overall with an 0-8 record in the conference. Midwestern State has won the last four meetings in Wichita Falls and leads the all-time series, 7-3.

In a midweek match under the dome, MSU faced one of the best teams in the conference — UT Tyler. The Patriots were a well-oiled machine en route to a straight-set victory and displayed some characteristics that MSU is hoping to emulate as the program continues to mature. The Mustangs complete the season on the road against West Texas A&M, Texas Woman’s and Eastern New Mexico.

Senior forward Mere Escobar scored twice in the win over Lubbock Christian and needs one more goal to have sole possession of the school’s record for goals scored during a career in Maroon & Gold.

Midwestern State faced the top three teams in the Lone Star Conference standing in consecutive weeks. The gauntlet ended on a rainy night at Memorial Stadium as Western Oregon won a mistake filled game, 21-16. The Mustangs fell behind early 14-0 after a short punt and an interception gave the Wolves favorable field position. Midwestern State drove deep into Western Oregon territory in the waning moment of the fourth quarter but turned the ball over on downs. Larry Donnell returned a fumble 66 yards for a touchdown, and Joesph Carlson booted three field goals for the Stang Gang. This week, the Mustangs renew their rivalry with West Texas A&M, which is coming off a 21-14 victory at Texas A&M-Kingsville for its third win in four weeks.

Midwestern State has won five of its last six matches and improved to 12-11 for the season. Midwestern State hit .462 in the first set, overcame a nine-point run by ECU in the second set, and rallied from a 20-13 deficit to take the third set against the Tigers. MSU has a four-match winning streak at D.L. Ligon Coliseum and has won 12 straight sets under the dome. Texas A&M International and Texas A&M-Kingsville visit MSU this weekend as the Stangs resume conference play and continue their four-match homestand.

Midwestern State is unbeaten in its last three matches. After back-to-back 1-1 draws against Oklahoma Christian and Texas A&M International, the Mustangs scored twice in the first half on a warm, windy day at Stang Park and defeated UT Permian Basin, 2-0. Nyxalee Munoz scored the first goal off a free kick from 25 yards out, and Lexi Beck assisted Jimena Rodriguez on a goal in the 38th minute. Beck now has 22 career assists, which ties Kari Bristow for the school record. It was Beck’s fifth assist of the season and the third goal of the year for Rodriguez, a freshman from Wichita Falls. The Mustangs are 8-2-5 overall with a 4-1-5 record in the conference. The Mustangs travel to Dallas on Friday for a meeting with 11th-ranked Dallas Baptist, which has won the last eight meetings and leads the all-time series, 8-7. The Patriots are one point behind Angelo State atop the LSC standings.

Midwestern State had a five-match unbeaten streak come to an end with a 3-1 loss at West Texas A&M on Saturday afternoon. The Mustangs outshot the Buffaloes, 19-10, and put 11 shots on frame, but WT converted on three of its four shots on goal. Samuele Muroni continues to impress for MSU. The senior from Italy scored his seventh goal of the season to give MSU the lead at WT, 1-0, in the 25th minute. WT scored in the opening minute of the second half and scored the game-winner in the 85th minute before adding a final tally in the 90th minute. MSU is in action twice this week. Lubbock Christian visits Stang Park on Wednesday, and the Mustangs travel to Eastern New Mexico on Saturday.
